I have been playing this game for a while and thought other frequent flyers might also enjoy it.
The game drops you in random locations and you have to guess where you are within a limited time-frame.
This is customisable but the maximum is currently 10 minutes (it used to be possible to set it to unlimited).
You navigate through the area with imagery from google maps streetview.
The maximum possible score is 5000 each game, for guessing very close.
You play in sets of 5 games for a score out of 25,000.

I just scored my first perfect score of 25,000, prompting me to create this thread.
My guesses were, on average, about 8 metres from locations, with my final guess within 1 metre of some random street in India.
I count that as an achievement: if I am given a location in France it feels like a gift.

I will freely admit that I have google maps and google translate and a search page running on another screen, so I can follow up any clues I see to help me determine the location. I do not regard this as cheating. For me the fun is in using my intellect to determine the location, rather than guessing at random (despite the name of the game).

Below shows how my perfect 5 game set played out across Greece, the USA (x2), France and India

You can choose various maps, I usually use the World map but I have been considering switching to Europe.

If you land somewhere in the middle of Africa, South America, South Asia or even outback Australia, far outside any town, it can be very difficult to find any clues. Australia generally has lots of street signs: Africa and South America do not. In fact even some states in the USA have far fewer street signs than we are used to here or in Europe.

Languages with different writing systems can also make things more difficult. If I can find a sign in English, French Italian, Spanish or Portuguese I am generally set: signs in Arabic, Hindi or Japanese can be more challenging. Mind you, so can Greek, or Slavic languages such as Ukrainian or Russian, so restricting the map to Europe may not fix that problem entirely.

The screenshots below show how close my ""guesses" or, more accurately, deductions, were for each of the five locations:

There’s a lot of justification being used in your post there… and I think you know why. If you choose to play the game that way that is of course your choice, but the results are then meaningless in comparison to anyone else who is only using the actual information available to them from within the game.

I like to play TimeGuessr which is a similar concept but I’d never consider using translate for the street signs or maps external to what the game gives you because… let’s call a spade a spade: that’s cheating.

Your maptap result in the other thread now makes more sense. (which is genuinely disappointing)
