Hi Guys,
I'm a lowly bronze QFF member flying out to HKG on 16th July, (V class fare) my Dad is a WP member and has requested a business upgrade both ways for me (about 2 months ago). (QF127 and QF188 btw)

From what I can tell the SYD-HKG leg is fairly empty in all classes and the HKG-SYD leg is full in economy - but seems to have 12ish seats left (looking on expert flyer and seatcounter).

Can anyone give me any clues as to whether I am likely to get an upgrade or not?? The extra baggage allowance will determine which suitcase/suitcases i need to pack!!!

Oh, and if i don't get the upgrade - esp. on the SYD-HKG flight, and its really empty, would it be sensible to request a 3 seater to myself (i have currently been allocated 39K and 37A on return) I'd prefer to have personal space and be down the back than be squashed up front (I'm average height and petite - so would that impact on whether they will give me the extra seats - b/c physically i don't really need it)???
Thanks heaps

Since the upgrade waitlist request was made by a Platinum member and two months ahead of time, you will be near the top of the waitlist queue that generally bodes well for success.

You cannot request blocked seats ahead of time and that can only be done at the airport. Any such request will be considered based on the loading of the flight and your status. Your father's Platinum status will not have an affect for such a seating request.

Thanks - about the seating request, i was just going to mention it (politely!) at check in, if i don't get the upgrade.

If E/F and seatcounter both show D9 availability your upgrade chances are good. If there is ANY I availability at all, your chances become very good.

I just has a look and your outbound is showing: F5 A4 J9 C9 D9 I7 B9 H9 K9 M9 R9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9 X0 E0

So at this point in time I would think you will not be asking for any blocked seating in WHY on this flight. :D

Looking at seat counter and need some help with classes.

Can anyone tell me what or where I can find the class meanings

Thanks

Hi Guys,
I have been "waitlisted" in business class for tomorrows flight, with my Y ticket still showing as confirmed - is this the process??? Does everyone who has requested an upgrade see this, or is this a good indication that i can use my extra luggage allowance????!!!

Cheers

Yep it's normally what is seen. All members who have applied for upgrades are 'waitlisted' for Business. Sometime in the next few hours, the waitlist will clear for those who got the upgrades, and the rest will disappear.

Even if your waitlist doesn't clear, there is still a small chance that your upgrade will clear before you depart.

Yay!!! Got the upgrade!!!!

J all the way for me tomorrow!!!
very excited as it is my first J trip apart from Sydney to brisbane which doesn't really count... any suggestions for the best seats... i was thinking upper deck b/c i've never been up there before and i like the window seat, i don't really think any seat will be a bad one in J though, at least not compared to Y!!!

Congrats on the upgrade.

I had a look at Expertflyer for available seats, but it appears that only a few middle ones on the bottom deck are still available.

You may be able to see the seating plan by going to www.checkmytrip.com and entering your Qantas (Amadeus) reference number, then clicking on the "View Details" button down the bottom, then clicking on the seat number reference for your flight.

Otherwise, just call Qantas and ask to see if there are any seats upstairs available.
