I do hope QF has some good stuff to announce on 24th.
We would like more 744 services out of PER to the east provided QF can get the IFE working more reliably.

It is quite ineresting that I could get to LHR on SQ for 180k using J ex PER and First on SIN-LHR or just over a million points to go QF. Now that's a tough call I said to myself.
Which one would you pick??

but that’s because they’ve blown through all their "award" inventory. As a WP/SG/PS you may be able to request more seats be released, bringing down the price.

Click,Click.....no phone call required....compete now is the call !

Haha, I can see where you’re coming from, but it’d be compete and lose money, or not and try to remain in business ;)

I do honestly think SQ is on a different playing field to the one QF is on.

Given that they are reviewing international flights, maybe you need to get WA to secede before the 24th to be included in the review :)

You need to be careful about WA leaving the Commonwealth as it would expose NSW ,Victoria and Tasmania as giant Ponzi schemes when our GST money stops flowing east. If Wayne Swan loses his mining tax in the High Court he will look about as stupid as Western Australians already think he is.
In the meantime we could use some 744 planes out of Perth even though it is for domestic runs!
Hope you like these comments oz_mark as I have been empowered with champagne tonight.

Gee, WA gets uppity after being GST positive for about 2 years. Umm, what about the other 109 years of Australian federation?

It is not just one person in WA thinking these thoughts Medhead and do note I did not include South Australia nor Queensland in my champagne inspired comments.
With Qantas they have been Sydney centred, except for JetStar that most in this group ignore. Using Sydney as a hub when there are flying time restrictions is not a great place for the hub to be when you think about it. That of course is very hard to fix as there is no clear alternative.

I thought WA sufficiently cover more than one person; the whole state in fact. ;) We don't have to go back very far to find NSW whinging about GST money going to WA. I'm pretty sure NSW still loses out on GST returned to the state.

Oh and I was only commenting on that one small aspect, not the hub location question.

SYD - Does have a 'open' curfew - can land; pay the price. I don't know about the rest of the airports in AustraliaMEL...(df says no curfew)BNE...?ADL...?PER...?

SYD/CBR and ADL have curfews for passenger jets, all allow freight ops.

And about ten minutes after the mining boom ends, WA pollies will be back in line with their begging bowl asking for more.

No curfew at MEL is correct.
The effective curfew at SYD is based on a big fine regime.
Anyway 24th is getting closer!

Is there actually a passenger jet curfew at CBR, or is the time limit imposed because it isn't worth while staying open? I.e. it costs too much for the few pax who actually use the airport late in the evening.

It's my understanding (from speaking to friends that work for J* and QF) that CASA affords each airlines a certain number of dispensations per year to leave or land after curfew in SYD - but that the airlines routinely blow through these fairly quickly and have none left most of the time. Is that correct?

There are some exclusions, basically 5 a day:

the Act provides for international passenger movements between 11pm and midnight and between 5am and 6am (the curfew shoulder periods) subject to

  • jet aircraft meeting the strictest ICAO noise standards (Chapter 3)
  • no more than 24 movements per week (no more than 5 on any one day) between 5am and 6am, which may only be landings [quota set by Regulation]
  • zero movements between 11pm and midnight [quota set by Regulation].
