Unused QC pro-rata refund?

I've had ~22 months of paid Qantas Club membership 'parked' since 2010 when courtesy of a DONE4 I jumped from NB to WP in a couple of months (and, a couple of years of SG notwithstanding, have remained there). A couple of years ago, just prior to the pandemic, I achieved LTG. So the QC membership is now redundant to me. I have read over the years (though nothing for a long time) of people receiving a pro-rata refund for the unused portion of the QC membership. I figured asking QF for money during the pandemic was probably not wise timing, however now that they are back into big profitability perhaps now is the time to do so. My question to the team is does anyone have recent experience of doing this? Successful, or not? And the method - phone, email, social? I'd just like to go in with my eyes open and my expectation level appropriate. Cheers.

In the same situation so interested in the outcome - I think there is another thread on here somewhere
Yes, there’s one or two threads. Gets a regular mention here (for obvious reasons).

But the other thread didn’t leap out at me.

Thanks @SYD for linking that thread. Some promising recent 'action' there gives me some cause for optimism.

I got my pro-rata refund in the last few years. I likewise achieved LTG just prior to the pandemic, so decided to claim what little was left back. I can't recall the exact process, but they just needed me to write it out in a stat dec and then get it witnessed and send that in.

I have managed to obtain my refund during the pandemic by writing to Qantas Frequent Flyer. There were no issues at all. I had to fill in a stat dec because I do not have the original credit card used to purchase my Qantas Club years ago. I recall the payment was also fairly prompt.

Does QF help you to figure out when you had it and what balance / duration remained of the QP membership? I know I had some time left on mine back before I first hit SG. It was probably less than a year remaining; maybe 9 months' worth. I'll likely hit LTG in 2024 and will look to claim it back when I do. No idea what it was worth when I was subscribed!

They worked out what I was owed. I didn't know what my pro rata balance was worth/or period left on membership OR more likely too lazy to go find out!

The stupid thing is they give you all the details (including dates and amounts), and make you put it into a stat dec.

Like - why do we need a stat dec here if the information came from QF?

About 20 years ago I purchased Life Time Qantas Club, then 7 or 8 years ago achieved the LTG level, how would they calculate a "pro rata" in this case?
From memory cost was about 4K for self and partner for LT QC

I don't have the answer, but recall they put a number on lifetime, so they'd likely look at that to work out what pro-rata would be. That said, QC used to be far cheaper than it is now, so you're likely only looking at a small amount to come back.

I have been procrastinating about applying for the refund but I am so fed up with Qantas this week that I sent off the email and received a prompt response detailing the refund I would receive and asking me to fill out the stat dec.

I'm a bit confused about what they want me to put in the stat dec - can you remember if you put your bank details in there or did that come later. Any other tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi VPS,

It was a while back but I think my stat dec was just to declare that my previous credit card used for the payment of QC membership had been cancelled so that they can process the repayment another way.

I think I then rang back to discuss the repayment details (did not put any financial details on the stat dec for security reasons).

Hope this helps.

(Also had recent misadventure with QF premium where a “processed” classic rewards upgrade from premium economy to business never actually happened. And no details on the system apparently but totally different story 🙄🙄).

Thanks for the info.

I think we all have Qantas horror stories at the moment.

In the same way that they make you supply a boarding pass to claim flights that they provided and which show up in your membership activity list. They clearly like to give customers nugatory admin tasks to complete!

I'm also interested in this. I got to WP around 2006 or 2007, have been there ever since and now also have TLG. I am sure I had time left on a paid QC membership but no idea how I would find out. From this thread it seems like I should just make contact and they can tell me.

Who is "they", by the way? Who do I need to contact?

Hello – can you please arrange a refund of my remaining Qantas Club payment as I have now reached Life Time Gold.

The response was

Dear VPS

Thank you for contacting Qantas Frequent Flyer.

I hope this email finds you safe and well. We do apologize for the late response.

This pertains to your concern regarding the refund of your Qantas Club paid membership.

Upon coordinating with our internal team, we have confirmed that you paid a total of $xx_AUD back in July 20xx for 1 year membership and you still have 7 months left from that membership. Hence, the amount to be refunded will be a total of $185.06AUD.

For us to proceed and process the refund, please fill out the attached copy of Statutory declaration to confirm that we will process the refund on a different card.

We are hoping to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Rick

Qantas Frequent Flyer Team

Thanks - have just sent an email too (for a year or so worth of refund from a 2 year payment made in about 2013).
