Underwhelmed by first QF flight as WP

One final thing: had 5 flights on AA (3 x F and 2 x J) last Nov and let me tell you - that's an airline who won't recognise anyone for anything! :shock:

Certainly not the case for this little flyer which is why I switched from QFF.Free upgrades even on Aawards,opups,and a lot of recognition.Little things like in J and meal choice not available so get to choose from F menu.
But mrsdrron is WP and she gets offered things i dont such as complimentary T mobile cards in the AC.

I'm sure there are people on here that'd know better than me. But my impression is that a Red e-Deal is not a Red e-Deal is not a Red e-Deal.

My strategy is to always check the fare conditions if I think I might want to upgrade with points, regardless of what fare I'm actually booking.

Can be (and often are) - depending on which class they book into.

I buy the lowest cost fare I can. It's my business. If I don't have the points to upgrade to J, I buy an forward exit row. I earn around 1,000 SCs per qtr. Might that also help?

But yes it seems some international red edeals are upgradable, but I'm not sure it is predictable or consistent in when that happens. I tried to allude to that when saying it is variable for international and place of purchase.

Perhaps red e-deal was the wrong term to use.

For international flights E, O, N, Q class are not upgradeable unless one receives a special limited time offer from Qantas where all classes are eligible for upgrades.

I've noticed that when there is a 'sale' fare on, most Red eDeal tickets are upgradable.

I went WP for the first time ever in the last fortnight. My first flight was QF799 CNS-BNE on 16-Jan. I was seated in the emergency exit row aisle seat (13D), and the cabin manager came up, passenger manifest in hand, and welcomed me by name, indicated that he knew that I flew a lot with Qantas, and thanked me for flying with Qantas. He asked if he could offer me anything, such as a newspaper, which I declined.

I had no idea that this was coming or was provided. Was a bit embarrassed at first, and then a bit chuffed, and then a bit more embarrassed wondering whether this might happen on every flight QF flight I get onto now.

The crew was a CNS-based crew on that flight.

Not to worry though. Got on QF799 again this morning, again a CNS-based crew, and didn't get a greeting or anything all flight. Phew.

Out of curiosity, I jumped on AFF to find out what I should be expecting. Looks like I could expect a greeting every now and again, but not to be surprised if nothing happens at all. Perhaps it's "expect the unexpected"!

+1, it would be nice to get but not high on the list of things I want from an airline.

On my relatively small sample size of flights, I haven't had a greeting as WP, although I have had an offer of a newspaper. No other unpublished benefits from the crew.

I think it's got to do with the crew, rather than the class you're in (except F).

I've had a bunch of flights (5 or 6) over the last 2 months in intl J where there was no greeting at all. It's not hit and miss. The service just isn't there by most crews. The odd CSM (maybe 1 in 5) is the exact opposite - TOTALLY AMAZING. How does QF get more of those?

Agree that CX always seem to come & say hello.

However, the best one I've received has been QF whY SYD-SIN....the senior man came back to say hello & if I wanted a drink....he then said "I'll make sure it's as full as you want it during the flight" & he did

Having spent the obligatory few hours in the SYD Flounge the flight was A-grade & I was as happy as if I was sitting upfront

Same here - never get a special greeting on QF but always on CX (unless I am asleep).

I am in J though so maybe that is the issue - I don't need the special attention.

CX has slipped.

On my most recent trip (6 flights in December)
no handwritten welcome cards
only a few greetings (I was one of two pax in J on one flights)

Domestically on one flight that was slowed by air traffic control by about 30 mins. The CSM then tracked down all the platinums in Y (they were spread out quite a bit) and offered each of us a glass of wine from wine from J. And once I also got offered a main from J served on a Y tray while seated in row 4. But both these were one offs.

Typically as a platinum travelling in Y domestically you normally get is a frown from the CSM when you show the BP. As opposed to the lifeless stare they give everyone else.

I agree, but l have noticed a positive change in QF recently (but that was flying in J) and haven't had a bad QF experience for a while.
Fingers crossed more of this to come and it filters down into the Y cabin.......
