Sorry, folks, this is a really trivial question, but I cannot find warm and quick-drying underpants. Singlets, yes (Kathmandu and similar stores). We're going LHR, TXL, PRG and others in early April, spending only a few days in each place, so need to wash 'n' dry overnight. They're coming out of the coldest winter in a zillion years, so we'll be doing the onion trick -- but the nether regions are important! Any clues?

We tend to all travel with comfy cotton briefs - wash at night, wring out really well and then dry close to the a/c vents and/or over a lamp shade. We've also used the back 'shelf' in hire cars to place damp underlings on...works well in sunny weather.
At worst we've had to put slightly damp briefs in a plastic bag within the case or in the outer zip compartment of our suitcases. Nothing will go mouldy in that cold!

Thanks mbeder. I'd be happy to use my standard Oz pairs, but the boss reckons they won't dry quickly enough. But you're right. Over a lamp shade will do -- and since hotel rooms will be heated, that should be enough.

In 30 years living in the UK I never had to buy thermal underpants. I think your boss might be taking the p1ss...

We always reckon that there's no better deterrent than a damp pair of undies in the outside compartment to stop any prying hands from going through your suitcase...

Understood, but I'm talking about WEARING them, not packing them!

Not talking about thermals, Si. Talking about quick-dries. Thanks anyway.

My point was more that you dont need warm underpants - just normal pants will be fine.

Seriously - I am in the UK next week and I will just take regular cotton boxers.

I found silk boxers were very quick drying and wearing them underneath thermal long johns kept everything snug and warm.

Bit of a pain when it came to having a leak with shrinkage and everything :p but one does cope.

They seem to be getting more difficut to buy but lycra jocks I have found to be quick drying. Used to buy mens fit brand but they seem to be following the masses to cotton rich. Have also used mitchdowd that were more $$$ but quick drying.
Got to go hard with the wrists for the wring out & overnight dry in hotel room.

The best idea is to go to your local K-mart, Myer store or maybe even Target who have them on special and see which ones are the lightest fabric.

Cotton is the worst drying fabric but I don't know if they make them in any other fabrics.

As mine wear out, I save them. When I'm going on a trip where washing is going to be a problem I wear one last time and then discard.

Don't have to worry about washing and drying!

Lay them in a towel and roll it up, then wring.
Presto - most of the water is absorbed by the towel and they dry a lot quicker ;)

With the wring, put one end of the rolled towel on the floor and trap tightly with one foot.

Tightly hold the other end of the towel then start twisting.

Keep twisting until you can twist no more.

Hold tighter and pull hard, keeping the towel tightly wedged between your foot and the floor. Twist some more if you can.

Undignified but does wonders for extracting moisture from the wet washing.

Remember that with a little creativity you don't need to wash underpants so often. Once worn, you can turn them around and wear back-to-front. Then turn them inside-out. Then turn them back-to-front again. That way you can get ..... four .... weeks out of pair of undies

Travel light .

All of the cryans have microfibre nickers, rinse out and dry with the hairdryer when travelling - same with bra's ( not Mr Cryan though)
