To paraphrase Aisle Seat H from over at Flyetalk (but I have copied him into this topic, so he won't mind me using his licence), there is a Status Match going on again.

Copied directly from his post over on the FT Qantas Forum:

You may not know that *A UK Status Match is being offered for a second year in a row !

The e-mails sent have personalised links so if you post them on FT your details will be accessable to all.

Here therefore is a de-personalised link someone has concocted and posted on the BMI forum that looks like it should work for anyone not invited - though this may be going against the rules of the promo. so use it at your own risk. You have been warned !

Looks from wording that it is open to people without a current *A account, so may even work !

Lindsay,

The de-personalised link does not appear to work. Have you been found out or is there an error in the hyperlink?

Thanks

Geoff

so which airline's membership should i go with if i was looking at flights mostly in the Asia/Pacific region?

Sorry geoffb78, been away for the weekend for a wedding on the Gold Coast. Hope oz_mark's new link works. As I took up the UK Status Match last year, I have no need for it this year and didn't get an email.

aoki, I'd presume a *A carrier that is participating in the status match and plies the Asia/Pac routes. An aside is that LH (last year) gave you status for 3 years rather than the normal 1 year (UA). Again, I haven't done any research into it (for the reasons above), so can't comment further.

Lindsay, assuming last year's status match was similarly targetted to UK residents only, how did you "take up the UK status match last year" being an Australian resident? Do you have dual citizenship & UK mailing address? Hope this isn't too personal and the G.C wedding was a blast!

BlacKnox, yes I am a dual citizen (Irish and Australian passports)...and sometimes a dual resident, so I have a mailing address. Not difficult ;)

GC wedding was a blast and now 1/3 of the way to Hyatt Platinum via a NorthWest Elite Status Challenge.

Yes Lindsay, I think I recall reading somewhere you saw some relatives on a European trip (honeymoon?) in London/ and or Dublin. I'm part Irish, and my brother married an Irish lass which sometimes makes watching the rugby difficult (e.g. World Cup Ireland/ Australia Q/Final). But St. Patrick's Day celebrations always make up for it :D

All *A airlines are participating, except for Singapore.

With most programs you get most benefit by being a member of FFP of the airline you are flying. In Asia/Pacific I would guess that would be TG (Thai), SQ (Singapore), NZ (Air NZ) or maybe UA (United). I've excluded NH (ANA) as they dont fly to Australia and not generally considered a good program unless fly within to/from Japan on ANA.

So that narrows it down to TG, NZ or UA for airlines that may be flying where you travel. I also wouldnt rule out BD (BMI) or LH (Lufthansa) if you fly mainly business/first class.

Next thing to consider is whether you can requalify *G (next level down has little benefits). For this we'd need some info on travel patterns - where do you fly, what class (and if discounted/full fare), how much in the year.

Other considerations would be ability to upgrade (currently this is limited to FFP's own airline - except LH & UA have a special arrangement - but is rumoured to be expanded to all *A at some stage), value of miles (how easy is it to earn enough miles for the awards you'd like to take), credit card and other non-flying earning ability, and a few quirks of various programs that can be useful.

If you'd like to give more info, I'd be happy to help.

Just to clarify Lindsay's post. LH status runs for 2 years and requalifying can be done in either calendar year. I would expect a comp now would provide *G for remainder of 2005, all of 2006 & 2007 and until Feb 2008. However LH *G is tough to maintain - 100k in one calendar year (can be either of the 2 years of status ie 2006 or 2007).

Hmm - tried oz_mark's link but just got a message saying I'd already registered.

Too late Bob, they're onto the fact that somebody "created" a link that worked for non-targeted people. As it was a targeted promotion, they have the right to close it down at any stage.

However, if you go back to the originally referenced Flyertalk topic, I note that Bmi have a separate (new) status match going. I'd get into it very quickly as they're likely to be flooded...

After all, the [separate to this] Northwest (Asia Division) status match recently got 8K replies - probably well in excess of what they were expecting, but that's the power of bulletin boards and email.

Hi

I recently took advantage of the de-personalised link (while it still worked). But I didn't record the address/fax number to which I need to send confirmation of my One World/QF FF status. Did anyone write it down? If so, please let me know.

Thanks

Geoff
