Two Seats = Twice the Points?

How about if I am on the same flight where I have a paid ticket in Y and an award ticket in J.

Do I get a seat in J and SC & FF points for the paid seat in Y :?:

I'm not sure I understand your question? You earn SC & FF points for the paid ticket, not the award :confused:

Flashware,

A real hypothetical I believe.

Alanslegal
was asking that if his two seats were one in J (FF points) and one on Y (paid), could he sit in J and earn the points & SC for the paid seat :?:

Now I'm confused, I think :!:

Best to leave it alone as all of us will be confused. I do not think it will be possible to have an award seat in J and purchase a revenue seat in WHY under the same name as there is no valid reason other than to claim SCs and miles/points for the spare seat in WHY.

One can justify purchasing the extra seat, eg I want extra room, if both seats are in the same cabin....

Well it's a hypothetical for now .... Let me give you an example to clarify, imagine that I have purchased a LONE4 and my simple routing is syd-lax-lhr-sin-syd.

As a QF NB I know it is very unlikely I would be successful in a points upgrade from Y to J on any segments, let alone the first syd-lax flight. So to get around this, I book an available classic J award syd-lax which cost 96K points on the same flight.

So now I have 1 paid Y ticket which is part of my LONE4 and I also have a 1 award J ticket for the SYD-LAX.

So thus is my question, would I be allowed to check in both seats? and since I'm seated in J , I assume I would be getting SC and points for my Y ticket, would this be a logical thought?

I would say so, yes.

It is extremely unlikely for this to happen. Qantas would detect the same FF number (or you as a passenger) on the same flight and take steps to clarify the matter. It is likely they will want to make you choose one seat or the other.

Of course, if you did decide fly in J on the award rather than in WHY, then you'd run the risk of invalidating the remainder of your LONEx segments.

Boarding twice may pose some logistical issues.

Indeed - their 'firming' policies would detect this as an abnormality and request it be resolved.

I don't think you will be able to have an award booking and revenue booking on the same flight especially in different cabins. Your name, and possibly FF number will provide a trigger and someone will notice and cancel one of the bookings. You will certainly hope that it is not the flight on your LONE4 that is cancelled as that may render the rest of your itinerary null and void.

Also you cannot check in for the same flight more than once and I think the airline does an override when you have purchased an extra seat for additional room. Plus there would be notes in your PNR to say that you have purchased an extra seat for extra room.

I had an instance last year where I had an award booking in J on BA metal and a Y paid ticket on QF metal, both ex Sin for Syd on the same night, I was called two weeks before and asked which one would be cancelled by QF, you dont even have to have the same flight!
