Two Double SC offers in one year

For those who have been lucky enough to receive todays DSC email, can you tell me how many advance bookings you have in the system? I'm thinking I'm going to miss out because I have about a dozen flights already pre-booked between now and next April? I hope there is still an email stuck in my ISP's gateway just waiting to arrive in my box!
Same here, lots of bookings up until December.

I wonder if the algorithm looks at my bookings and goes "Nah, he's right, he's spending" :(

Any P1's get the offer? Nothing here..

I did however get a free weekend car rental with Avis if I present my P1 card?

That's what I would have thought but I got the DSC offer as an already requal WP with plenty of big bookings in the system. Maybe they are trying to pull me to WP1?

But that's not likely to occur - as a SFSC, most of my SC earn is INT on DONEx's with OW partners (thanks AA ).

I got it as well. Nice, also 2nd time this Membership year (which began 1/3). Now the conundrum - try for Plat on QF (415 points now, plus this DSC with JASA's for remaining flying to 1/11 to 31/12*), then try for remaining SC's towards VA Plat (will be 100 short on rolling year @ 1/11, but some will start dropping off)...

Ah, Qantas - nice meaty bone you have on offer.

P.S. I have no bookings presently and only flown a JASA BNE/MEL/ADL/BNE (in last DSC period) and paid J AKL/BNE 2 weeks ago.

* Have SYD and PER trips contemplated for Nov. Prob would do BNE/MEL/PER/ADL/BNE (nice earning for a JASA under DSC)

I have a one way Perth to Melbourne in J, three return trips Melbourne to Canberra in Y, Melbourne LAX return in Y, and a Melbourne OOL return in Y in my forward bookings, from now until March. However that is a lot less than usual, as being well and truly requalified WP (currently sitting on 1870 SCs), I've mostly shifted my flying to DJ, where my status year ends earlier, until 31 October when my Qantas year ends, to get a head start requalifying on DJ. I'm pretty pleased with the offer, as I'll be flying a lot in Nov/Dec and hadn't booked any of it yet.

Again no offer for this WP. Must be on a blacklist or something.

Qantas would have lost a few elites to Virgin.

How do people define elites? Someone who does some serious flying. Those who are at Platinum One level or pretty close to it. Double SCs offers are not going to create too many elites, with the exception of simongr, as that still requires serious flying.

I assume you mean that I only got to P1 due to DSC? That is completely true - I would only be on 3,000 SCs if not for DSC.

Not sure whether I would be classed as an elite, probably not, but I also do a lot of flying.

So someone receives a double SCs offer and gets to the next level then the year after does not receive any offers and drops back down a level. What have you achieved? You have encouraged that person to take a few extra flights. Wouldn't making airfares realistic again have the same effect and sell a few more seats?

And you are also creating an uneven playing field. How? I book all my flights in advance and earn Platinum status the hard way except for some creative cheating that everyone has similar access. Do I say congratulations to everyone who can get Platinum status requiring only half the flying? No. Why?

I look around me and I see Platinum benefits devalued, I see crowded lounges, it is becoming increasingly difficult to consistently get to the first rows of economy, I see airfares increasing (20%-50%) yet the cost for an any seat award staying the same, I see partnerships created that are of no use to me and my flying patterns, etc.

So what do I do? Firstly I fast track Lifetime Gold. Secondly I do enough flying to maintain Virgin Gold every year which is more than enough for me while I am commuting as that gives me luggage and lounge access. Thirdly I invest more money into buying AA miles and US Airways miles for my overseas travel which then provides me with luggage and lounge access.

So you tell me what has Qantas achieved with their non-stop double SCs offers?

Conversely it has guaranteed my travel on QF. I got the HKG offer (which was open to all to promote the A380 to HKG) and the general offer at about the same time. It was about the same time that I was on the tipping point of deciding whether to maintain WP in both QF and DJ. The offers meant I was definitely going to hit 2,400 and then progressively I would hit P1. So it has channelled about 20 extra sectors to QF DOM flexi-saver fares plus J to/from SYD-BKK.

I personally havent seen over-crowded lounges and I even got my preferred seat in the SYD F lounge this week.

I do love how people differentiate between "cheats that are open to all" and DSCs. KUPPs/YUPPs are not open to everyone as not everyone can avail themselves of them. I for one could easily afford to jump on a flight to the US and do a YUPP extravaganza - but I do not have the time or opportunity to do (I would also have to engage a divorce lawyer if I tried this).

I dont care how people got to the level that they got. QF have set the bar for the level and the mechanics of getting there. They know that some WP will be higher revenue than others and others will be higher profit - I personally probably have drunk most of QFi's potential profits this year ;)

I doubt it, the latest offer at face suggests they are trying to get improved business on the local level, indicating to me at least that QFi is now travelling OK, and it's Jetconnect/ domestic feeling the pinch.

Same here, lots of bookings up until December.

I don't have any bookings to end Dec, although heaps after that and I didn't get it. I think I've only ever had 1 and wasn't able to take advantage of it. The 3 kids seem to get them much more often.

Have not recieved any DSC offers this year. Last year (current) I made wp of my own spend, mainly domestic in y with a JASA to get me over the line. Looks like I will be sg next year :(

I got this. I also got the HKG offer earlier in the year but couldn't use it. I had enough bookings in the system that I was going to be about 140 SC short of requal and was wondering about bridging that gap, so this will help nicely but I was going to make it anyway as I would have booked a JASA for requal.

A friend of mine reports that she got a DSC offer in about August (before her SG requal) and then another one yesterday (early in her year).

I got my first ever DSC offer in 2002 - it helped me go from PS to SG and I've never looked back. I don't think I even really knew what SG was back then. All I knew at the time was "free QP, yippee".

Got mine this evening and yes it is my second for the year. I'll finish my membership year with >2500 SCs so any flights will be taken in my next membership year.

Now, should I look for a JASA?

Well I booked a JASA this afternoon for December (new membership year). MEL-SYD-ASP return, 240 SCs return for 48,000 points and $291. So with double SCs I get 480 SCs, way too good to pass up and now I have >1000 SCs booked for next membership year.

Wow- I got this offer as well - and like others my second double SC's for the calendar year (but this one is in a new membership year for me)
Being WP I'm not sure I'lll bother as I dont think I'll requalify based on flights so I'll get a soft landing to Gold anyway so why both chasing more SC's - although LTG is getting closer with every double SC offer!

Well I got it the day AFTER I finalised all my travel for the period. Even booked a FASA the night prior so will probably just miss out - not going to risk rebooking it and losing a P seat a couple weeks from departure.

Overall not too concerned, because it was few domestic segments and the flights are significantly more expensive now e.g. the OOL relaunch J sales. Also had some gift vouchers from the 10 points / $ thing left to use. I have found myself in a magical place where retaining WP seems ridiculously easy, all self-funded and travelling for fun.

So for an opinion: obviously they're targeting for the low season (for business travellers), that makes sense. However I would prefer they'd stick to highly targeted double SC offers such as the Hong Kong flights one earlier in the year. All makes lifetime a lot easier. Alas I've only been at this 3 or so years, so LTS is probably not going happen until early next year.

I received this offer also. I was just comped SG as I did not have enough SC's to requalify and I have no forward bookings with Qantas. My year end is Sept 30. Who knows!!

Nothing here for this one!

The last one I received back on the 3rd of October was after I had taken about 20 QF flights in a month and then stopped and had no future bookings!

Last time I followed up on one of these I got DSCs for prior bookings as well. Not sure if they have tightened up on that.

Cheers skip
