Trying to book LONE4 but the OW/QF websites are sending me in circles...

Hi all,

I suspect the answer to my question might be "You can't book a OWE fare through Qantas online", but here goes...

I've drawn up a 16 sector validated LONE4 on the OW site, clicked on "Booking Contacts", clicked on Qantas under "Fares and reservations on-the web", then clicked on "Round the world" on the QF site it takes me to. I'm then shown a slightly different OW booking tool, where I can load up my itinerary...

..but how do I book it online?? There's no "Book" link, and clicking on "Booking Contacts" just sends me back to the start.

I'm fine with calling Qantas to book it, but it'd be nice if they actually said that somewhere!

Or have I just completely missed something? Appreciate any advice. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: Any benefit to ticketing a LONE4 through AA rather than QF? Taxes are fairly low anyway, based on a quote I had recently on a similar LONE4. Thanks. :)

Edit: Hmm, based on the pricing on the OW site, a LONE4 ticketed from the US is significantly more expensive than one from Australia! $4,400USD vs $3,699AUD!

I can get a basic LONE4 ex-SYD planned and priced here:

Remember the carrier whose flight you first use is the one who tickets the LONEx (with a few limited exceptions), so if you want it ticketed by AA, choose them for the first flight, same with Qantas.

Thanks Mal. I think I've found the problem. I did the itinerary under "Plan", not "Plan and book", and even though it uses the exact same interface/tool, it seems I can't transfer my "Planned" itinerary into the "Plan and book" tool. Annoying.

Cheers,
- Febs.

There must be something in my booking that's stopping me from booking online. The "Book" button changes to "Booking contacts" when I open my itinerary, every time. Even when I open it through the Qantas "version" of the tool (oneworld planner).

After looking at the phone booking charges (and the $25 CC fee!!) I think I'm just going to go through our work TA for $75 and be done with it.

Cheers,
- Febs.

That may be the case when booking online, but when booking through a TA, as long as theres one long haul AA sector, you can plate to AA.

As a min. youd need a transatlantic on there to be able to plate.

To be honest though, the tax difference at the moment is negligible...I did one on friday and the tax difference came out at around $30...hardly worth worrying about on a 4k fare.

It really depends upon the routing. Checking with plating on each carrer is recommended.

AA plating will incur Fuel fines on AA marketed flights but not on those marketed by other carriers. QF plating will incur fuel fines on all routes that QF has fuel fines for whether they are the marketing carrier or not.

Of course LA have no fuel fines and do not charge them on any segment.

Cheers guys. Ended up booking with my TA. $75 one-off fee and that's it.

I feel a bit strange using a TA for personal travel ( ) but QF can get stuffed if they think I'm going to pay them $25 to book using a CC, on top of a $30 phone fee. For $15 more it was easier to e-mail the PDF to my TA and be done with it. :)

Why are they charging you a $75 fee? One would thing the comm off a LONE4 is still pretty reasonable (well it was when I did one last Friday) and given you did all the work for them with routing, one wonders how they justify an additional service charge.
