Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

Is anyone affected by the new ESTA implementation by the new President?

Re: Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

Yes i believe im affected and cant get any straight answers or confirmations.

I was born in Sudan and moved to Australia in 1970 when i was 6. Now 53 years of age only hold Austn passport. As i was born in one of those affected countries there is a reasonable chance of being turned away upon entry despite having a valid ESTA.

No one can provide any definitive answer. Whole thing is hopeless.

My travel is just for leisure to Hawaii, my thoughts go out to those those lare legitimate travellers whose life and future depends on entry to US.

Welcome to AFF zakatak888 :)

You won't get 'bankable' advice here on AFF, but we share oure knowledge as best you can.

If you are an Australian citizen, with an Australian passport (and none from the affected countries) you will have no problems getting to the US.

You are a good example of the problems engendered by the media's hysterical reaction to the temporary national restrictions. Mass confusion rather than clarity of the facts (mind you, the US announcements haven't been that clear either - but there's never been any question re Australian citizens without dual nationality).

(BTW, if there is a problem (and there shouldn't be) you won't be 'turned away' - you'll know at check-in.)

Re: Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

Another thought. If you have travelled to any of the 7 countries since 2011 ( I think it is) you won't get an ESTA and will have to apply for a regular visa, ( thank you President Obama) but you should be OK with that.

Re: Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

Thankfully the situation appears to be resolved following prime ministerial intervention. But it's a bit rash to call people hysterical for reporting the facts.
Case in point the Iranian born, Australian citizen school boy travelling on an Australia passport who was told he couldn't get a visa on Monday. - google Melbourne boy with Australian-Iranian citizenship... etc,. for the story

There was also the news story of someone born in one of the countries who was an Australian citizen with only an Australia passport. but that passport did list his actual place of birth in the other country. So the US customs people could just look at that and block entry.

Re: Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

We have an upcoming US trip for this October. Our current ESTA will expire before then, so we decided to do the right thing and panic.

I quickly submitted all new applications for 4 people on Sunday, which automatically cancels our existing visa status. What I did notice however, was the extra questions - asking for all parents names. Obviously that means myself and husband for our kids, but in the case of us - well, all parents are dead. So why they think this is useful information I do not know. But I would imagine it is for cross referencing and gaining just that little bit more of an intimate profile for all (including New) Australians. Hoping that doesn't come across as racist - I didn't know how else to put it.

ABC News is reporting great confusion and ambiguity from dual citizens, FIFO sales reps to multi national corporations, so we have a right to question and discuss.

Just calling it fake news on this forum may be a default response, but the Status Quo has changed and therefore it IS news.

Some poor folk are going to be affected by this. They say it's going to continue for 30 days:

We arrive at LAX in 28 days with a 2.5hr transit. I support the protesters and if it negatively affects me, Im just going to have to suck it up.

This is old news.
Questions relating to more detailed family info and travel history were added to ESTA during 2015. Optional questions relating to social media were added in 2016, when the VWP bans for people having visited certain middle east nations since 2011 were added.

No changes to ESTA or the VWP have been made by the Trump White House (at this time). There has been some talk about adding more requirements re the social media questions.

The question about parents has existed for a while now...

Hopefully, the situation will be clarified, sooner rather than later.
At the moment, the US Department of State website shows the following as the latest update:

"Urgent Notice: Under the Executive Order on Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign Nationals signed on January 27, 2017, visa issuance to nationals of the countries of Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen has been suspended effective immediately until further notification. We will announce any other changes affecting travelers to the United States as soon as that information is available."

Not too comforting for those who could beclassified as a national of one of the listed countries, despite travelling on a passport from another country.

Best of luck, zakatak888. :)

Re: Trump and the new ESTA [ There is no new ESTA. ]

I don't remember the parent questions when I applied early 2016, but that's no mystery because I can forget anything.

Denali, I wish you a speedy transit through LAX and a great trip. Let us know how it goes.

Now, does anyone know where I left my car keys?

Ho ho. Try for a Russian Visa. As well as parents, you have to give your previous 2 employers, your bosses' position, business addresses and phone numbers; current employer and your position, 10 year travel history, with dates ( if it will fit) etc etc, places you'll stay, addresses and phone numbers.

Indians also pretty nosey.
