I am trying to book 2 seats from Sydney to Santiago using my Qantas Frequent Flyer points. It will cost me around $10k to book the entire trip (I need to go to Ushuaia) so I was hoping that FFs may take off some of the sting.

I am trying to go late December 2007. I only just found out that I need to get there.

There are no seats available. Anyone got any hints on how to get them?

Look for non-direct routing as well, such as using QF/JL/CX to USA and AA/LA down from there. In such cases it will likely be cheaper to use the OneWorld Award than a series of one-way partner awards. You will pay a lot in fuel fines for a multi-sector award itinerary.

The SYD-SCL flights are noted in the FF terms and conditions as an exception to the usual requirement to use the operating airline's flight cost for award flights. That specific flights must use the QF codeshare flight number for the awards due to the way the codeshare agreement operates. So once the QF award seats have been "sold" you are going to out of luck to get any more allocated.

G'day OneShow, welocme to AFF.

Unfortunately, the best way to get Qantas award tickets for late December international flights is to book them at the maximum 353 days in advance. You would have needed to be looking at booking them in early January this year.

Your best bet is to take NM's advice and look for alternate routings.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
