I quite liked the Marc Newson silverware (not the plastic knife though!) that is used on QF J. I think they're rather hip and trendy. I want to buy some to use at home. I have some Phillip Starke designed forks at home but they're not nearly as cool. Short of begging QF to sell me some - can anyone tell me where to get them in Melbourne? Or are they some "exclusively for Qantas" deal?

The cutlery is exclusively Qantas. Even if you managed to get them to sell you a set, the knifes will still be plastic as a Marc Newson metal knife was never made.

If they make another batch, you could try breaking into the Alessi factory while they were being made :)

Was a knife designed and not made, or did they skip designing it as well?

That was what I feared. :( Oh well, I'll see if QF will sell me any.

Well the knife is designed - and you use it now but it is plastic - a metal one was never made and probably never will be unless CASA changes it's regulations.

Qantas employ this cutlery in the MEL & SYD Flounges, washing it after each use. This has an effect on the knifes which start to become quite brittle.

I broke one earlier this year when using it and saw another do the same a fortnight ago.
