Travel plans 2024

Plans for UK visit and an Eastern Mediterranean cruise now up in the air after events in Israel, one of the major stops. Will still visit UK whatever to see family, but other plans around that trip will now wait until we get back from Oslo in January.

Sounds like you've got an exciting year of travel ahead! Exploring Bangkok, cruising, cherry blossoms in Japan, Hokkaido road trip, and more. It's wonderful to have such diverse travel plans. Enjoy your adventures!

Is anyone concerned about the plummeting value of AUD in terms of travel next year? Are you being conservative with your plans?

I have a 3 month road trip staring end of July. I hope it recovers a little, but it’s very easy to spend $500 a night on basic accommodation. The trip is during long service leave so I will suck up cost and not stress about it.

Edit. Some Airbnbs can help keep average cost down.

We are travelling to Italy in May 2024 and the accommodation cost keeps changing every other time I check for any other options. Forex conversion charges have already impacted our accommodation costs. Luckily we don't have to worry about tickets now as they have already been booked.

Yes
Most travel will be in the US and even a basic Hampton Inn is often 400 per night.
US hotel prices are out of control… Two visits this year and lots of $$$$. Fortunately found value in some AirBnBs for longer stays.

Canada is the same, although at least the AU$ is better there

A couple of domestic trips to watch cricket in Sydney and Brisbane in January start the year. Then it is two weeks in Adelaide from late February to go to the Adelaide Festival for the fifth time. From mid-April it is our big one for the year. After a week visiting relatives in Sydney, we will fly JAL for the first time for a couple of days in Yokohama (at the new Yokohama Hilton), 10 days in London, 8 in Paris and 5 in Rome before boarding Silver Spriit for a 37 day voyage. It's around the Western Med then up to the UK for a 12 day circumnavigation. On the way home it is 4 or 5 days in Tokyo at the Conrad. From late July it is a month in Cairns and Port Douglas to escape the winter in Melbourne. After that, who knows. I too am in shock at hotel prices in Europe.

Vancouver was insanely expensive when we were there a few weeks ago. Maybe because it was around Labor Day but still. Found a great AirBnB for half the price. Montreal - not so bad. New England was just crazy $$$$.

I bit the bullet and booked flights SYD-HAN, SGN-SYD with my expiring Singapore points for March April. Some great looking places to stay at very reasonable prices. For what we paid for a night in Iceland in the most basic place we are getting four nights in a very nice place. Glad we've done our US travel for now with the declining $A.

I have booked some hotels in Venice/Florence for May 2024 and looking at declining AU$ , I am just bleeding :(

Not really when we seem to bringing the Yen with us!
Back to Hokkaido in Feb for some snowboarding then Osaka, Singapore and HK on the way home! 400 000 Qantas and 80 000 VA points burned!

We have cut back from twice a year to UK/EU to just once from 2024. It is getting more and more expensive, but when you have a child and grandchild residing permanently in the UK, there is a very strong draw. Will probably go less, but stay longer.

Bit boring but QLD for niece's 50th birthday in February, waiting for fares to "stabilise" or QFF CR has more availability mid year and we run away for Mr Flyfrequently's major birthday ( he who dislikes a fuss!)

May I ask where you stay in Cairns and PD?

I have just applied for some long service leave between Australia Day and Easter, so need to start planning some trips!

So far, February - trip to Singapore with points (AY new seat). Hotel prices are ridiculous! Also doing Thailand as part of this trip and Bangkok hotels were quite reasonable

I wouldnt be surprised if there has been a big pause on forward bookings (for middle east / europe) in the last week after the recent events.
