Sorry to hijack this thread!

On another note though, we are surprising my aunty who has just gone through chemo for breast cancer ( double masectoomy with stage 3) with a holiday to Bali with my 2 girls.

Just a quick trip over Easter relaxing in our own villa.

With regards to travel insurance (I had a terrible time just recently trying to get my ankle covered as I kept getting declined or quoted $800 for a 2 week trip to US) with her pre existing medical condition, who do you use to cover you?

On a trip to Europe & the UK 2 years ago, I got cover for MrMac with a pre-existing heart issue, for about $600-ish from Covermore. Bit of a palaver getting all the info to them but for the peace of mind....I can't recall whether I got the recommendation from AFF or a TA friend

I don't think this is a thread hijack...I am just thinking ahead to a trip in December 2015. Obviously airfares aren't booked yet. When you declare a pre-existing condition and the premium rises astronomically, are you then covered for claims arising from that pre-existing condition?

If you've declared the pre existing you will be notified that it's been approved and so yes claims on that are allowable.

It becomes a very big problem indeed if you haven't declared a pre exisiting condition! And of course it's not until you make a claim you find out what you're NOT covered for!

I went for Covermore precisely because Mrmac had had heart issues some years ago & my broker tried a number of insurers who just flat out said no. Actually I now recall that it was a TA friend who put me onto Covermore. We declared the condition on the proposal, then filled out a very comprehensive questionnaire & lastly provided report from our GP.

A bit of messing about, a slightly higher premium but not ridiculously so, and well worth it for peace of mind; we weren't prepared to take a punt on going o/s without the cover.Thankfully nothing went amiss.

A bout five years ago we went to NZ and Mrmac had a turn on the plane; met at the airport by the ambulance and after a night in hospital he was fine; it was not a heart related issue. That time we had Mondial Assist and they were really terrific in their advice and support, even calling us when we got back home just to check everything was ok. I couldn't speak highly enough of them - very rare to say that about an insurance company.
