I've been looking up health insurance policies recently for my flight in July returning EO August. I was going to get a simple run of the mill policy, then managed to find out that my liver and gallbladder are not working properly. Thankfully I have private health insurance that can cover my health issues, but just in case I cannot get them fixed before the flight... Anyone know a good travel insurance that will still cover me? Or is this something I need to call and discuss/arrange with them?

I'm hoping to have it all resolved, but I have noticed a few clauses stating that I not only cannot have any health issues at the time of travel, but that I cannot have seen a GP 2 months before the date of flight!!

Let me know if you have any ideas or past experiences that may help!

Cheers,
Panda

The way I understand things as a layman when it comes to insurance, anything you see the doctor for in the xx months before travel is classed as a pre-existing condition that is not covered for should it affect your trip. I am not sure you will get cover for such possibilities from anyone, but if oyu can live with that then so be it!

You'll have to declare them as pre-existing conditions, and pay extra to have them covered.

Can't comment on the liver - but have found in the past that covermore will cover the gallbladder.

Have a look at QBE issued through Citibank. From memory, you don't have to declare anything pre-existing, you just aren't covered for the pre-existing condition, or anything related to it. I am happy to be corrected, but that is my understanding of their policy.

Also for memory, Colombus require prior notification of a pre-existing, and I think that they can get out of the contract if you don't pre-warn. I did notify them in advance of a minor pre-existing, by phone, and they issued the policy, but made it clear that I wasn't covered for anything relating to that matter.

So you definitely have options
