Hi All,

Tomorrow I'm traveling MEL SYD DFW and planning to use my First Class lounge invite I got recently for the grounding. I'm arriving at 12:55pm on QF428 and departing on QF7 at 15:40...

How long/What time do you think I will get to the F lounge in Sydney assuming I arrive on time at 12:55pm?

My luggage should be checked all the way through from MEL and I should get my SYD DFW boarding pass from MEL? so it should just be straight onto the Qantas T3 -> T1 transfer bus and then through security onto the lounge... I guess I would get to the lounge around 1:30? Which would give me about 2 hours in there....
I'm starting to think I should of got an early MEL SYD flight so I could make better use of the lounge...

Thanks in advance.

Get an earlier flight!

If all on time then 90 minutes MAX.

Bus departs Gate 1 at 1:20pm (You are unlikely to make the 1:00pm trip) - arrive T1 1:30pm.

With express pass you should be through customs / emigration by 1:45 and in lounge by 2pm.

You will likely get your SYD-DFW boarding pass in MEL. Make sure you get a departures card as well and complete it before arriving at the SYD immigration area - it just cuts out a few minutes wasted filling it out before queueing.

Depending on the time of day the transfer buses from T3 to T1 depart every 10 or 20 mins, so you will most likely have a short wait in the transit area. If the SYD immigration hall is fairly busy you may get through in 20~30 mins but it will most probably take longer (unless you have an express card).

Enjoy the F Lounge!

So if i move to an earlier flight would you recommend QF426 arriving at 12:25 or QF422 arriving at 11:25...?

What would stop me getting in to SYD very early, ie 7:25AM and then getting to the lounge around 8-8:30AM spending all day there (I don't want to do this, just wondering if it is possible in theory since I should get my BP in Melbourne?)

Boarding will commence at 3pm (being a USA flight).

Given a one off pass I'd look for maximum experience. ;)

There is nothing at all to stop you doing this if you really want to! But even the F lounge begins to pall after a while...

I would suggest the 11:25 flight, as then you can take your time transferring and have an enjoyable lunch in the F Lounge (and a few beers/wines/ champers!) without feeling like you need to rush.

Nothing stopping you from getting there very early, apart from the boredom of sitting around waiting for your next flight.......

Thanks everyone. I've changed to QF422 arriving at 11:25. Should get me to the F lounge just after midday I expect... plenty of time to enjoy lunch and spa.

After to present your BP to the lounge agent at the top of the escalator make sure the first thing you do is walk around to the left past the kitchen/bar and walk all the way to the end and try and book yourself a treatment. Then, explore and live it up! :)

Nothing to stop you doing this, in fact I'd recommend it :)

Well nobody can accuse you of not practising what you preach AW. QF501 to JQ35 anyone? :p :p

Ferni, as well as commpleting your green departure card prior to arrival in SYD, make sure QF at MEL also give you an Express Card for immigration.

Don't forget to tell us all about your Flounge experience & if SWMBO liked it.

Thanks for the advice. In MEL QP at the moment. Filled in my departure card and got my express card for syd.

Unfortunately i'm traveling by myself (business) so the better half isn't with me to enjoy the F lounge. I only have the one comp pass so if she was we both probably wouldn't get in anyway ...

It's a good motto to live by :)

I'm just annoyed they've moved JQ35 forward an hour, cutting into F Lounge time ...

Yes I'm annoyed my usual flight into SYD has been pushed back 35 mins :(. Less time to enjoy before QF11.

I recommend going early - the F lounge is not a bad place to sit and relax before a long flight.

Going to refer back to this thread late June. Land at T3 1150am and board through T1 at around 1730. Anyone care to speculate on the chances of Mrs11sjw getting a spa and myself a massage?

If the rules haven't changed if flying J and F spa access is available. I've travelled wth a Y pax and No access.

If you are J get there as early as poss. and go to spa and book in but if F the concierge will call you day before and you can arrange a time for spa.
