Does Brisbane have hotels setup for transit use only? Or are people expected to sleep on the seats in the airport?

Considering a status run.

Yep, it's bizarre. But QLD has still declared the ACT a hotspot. :(
I think this is on the basis of "open border" policy between ACT and NSW. Apparently ACT hospitals are for Australians, not just ACT people! And people who live in Quangers and work in the ACT (and maybe even vice versa) are welcome here.

I think we here in the ACT seem to be managing the genuine risks with hygiene, physical distancing, business planning, contact tracing, and a reasonably compliant population.

When is your trip @MikeG ? I'll be happy to report my experience, also I would feel more comfortable if I hear some feedback first :D If anyone has some feedback to share, please do so!
Yes please to both of you for a trip report or more details as this is a trip I could make to see my niece and her new baby....

So what happens if the Covid situation changes? If states and territories start imposing restriction while people are travelling, that might be a problem. Take Melbourne, suddenly travel bans in place.

It actually sounds like a bit of a loophole - QLD government will pay for your overnight accommodation if you transit through BNE

No

Passengers with extended transfer times may be required to enter quarantine at a Government-arranged hotel at your own cost. The cost of quarantine will be charged based on the duration of your stay.

"They haven’t actually put Brisbane back on the hotspot list yet."

How ridiculous that they did.
The IBIS at BNE Airport is a good hotel, although you may find the short vowels a but of a chellinge.

I'll second that. She's helping our stupid Premier ruin people's lives.
That's your opinion, sport. Let us keep politics out of it.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just fly through Adelaide?
I saw some options to fly with Qantas CBR to DRW via ADL, not the dates I needed, and more importantly, it would also require an overnight stay in Adelaide. I found no information about SA gov policy on overnight transit and quarantine, no idea if it's even possible.

I think you would still need to apply for an SA border permit. Not sure about quarantine arrangements or whether this is possible.

When I flew into SA the other week from QLD, the lady next to me had a connecting flight to Perth and didn't realise she needed an SA pass. Had to get processed by the police there, but not an issue as not coming from a "hotspot".

I suggest you read your own post. An overnight stop between flights would be less than 24 hours, which means you don’t pay.
“You will not be charged a fee if your transit time is less than 24 hours”

You do NOT need a border pass for SA if you are transiting in ADL and won’t leave the airport. SA doesn’t consider you have entered SA until you leave the airport. It explicitly says this in the cross border travel direction (No 13).

There is a border pass category called “passing through“ which would probably do the trick for an overnight stop. It’s quite vague and appears to be written for people transiting SA by road (includes restrictions such as travel by the most direct route) That said, it doesn’t say it can’t apply to air arrivals, and this kind of transit is probably less risk than 2-3 days driving across the entire state.

I'm not sure if this is correct, unless it has changed recently?
I know my last trip into Adelaide (ex HBR), the two gentlemen behind me on the plane ran into grief because they didn't have a permit. They wanted to transit to a Brisbane flight and I'm fairly sure they ended up missing their connection. SAPOL were very firm on the point.

The issue occurred as I understand because some tu$d from Sydney flew to QLD from CBR to escape the ban. QLD decided it wouldn't take the risk of infection coming in via that route.
Piainful but that's what it is.

There is no merit in that 'story' as a justification to declare ACT a hot spot. As part of arrival into QLD, one needs/needed to show ID. They could have easily restricted arrivals from ACT to ACT residents (verifiable via their driver license for example).

An overnight stop could also be more than 24 hours, in which case you will pay

No, it’s been the policy for some time. https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/__da...rder-Travel-No-13-COVID-19-Direction-2020.pdf

(1) A person arriving in South Australia on any aircraft or vessel is taken not to arrive in South Australia for the purposes of this direction if—

(a) in the case of an arrival on an aircraft—the person does not leave the airport in South Australia; or

(b) in the case of an arrival on a vessel—the person does not disembark from the vessel in South Australia.

The lady travelling from BNE-ADL-PER definitely did need a pass for SA. She hadn't applied before arriving in ADL because she didn't realise she needed it (perhaps she'd read the same website you've quoted above). But she was able to get it on the spot and continue on to her connecting flight.

Not sure if it would make a difference if you were coming from a "hotspot", and perhaps this has changed.

My apologies. Just checked the latest direction you referred to and they have indeed eased that requirement. Makes sense.
Now to read the rest of it to see if there's any complications I'm going to encounter next trip. Keeps me busy trying to keep up with the changes!
