Hi guys,
I booked a frequent flyer ticket for a Jetstar flight from Wellington - Auckland which connects onto an Emirates flight to Sydney. I booked the earlier Wellington - Auckland flight so that I could spend more time in the Qantas/Emirates Lounges in Auckland after being told on the phone that my boarding pass for the Emirates flight would be issued in Wellington and my baggage checked through to Sydney.

I just found out today that this isn't going to happen and that check-in for Emirates only opens up three hours before the flight. This wouldn't be an issue if I could bring my checked luggage into the lounge/leave it somewhere but this doesn't look like it's going to be a possibility because the lounges are located after customs/immigration and a) I wouldn't have my boarding pass and b) Once I go through customs/immigration I can't go back into the main terminal.

Is there anyone who can share some wisdom/advice :)?

Not sure why you would want to spend any extra time in the AKL lounge it's not that flash. I don't believe Jetstar have an interline agreement with Emirates. Plan B?

A slight technical point, I flew Emirates from AKL last week and the check in opened four hours prior to departure.

Also, is your first flight a domestic leg? If so you'll need to get to the international terminal to continue your journey.

Thanks for the responses. And yes the extra time was mainly for the Emirates lounge. Jetstar does have an interline agreement with Emirates - jetstar.com/au/en/planning-and-booking/flight-connections. It states they will transfer bags for the following flights:

-Connecting international flights
-Domestic to domestic connecting flights with Jetstar Pacific

By "connecting international flights" do they mean only from one international flight to another international flight?

I've spoken to a few different people from Qantas, Emirates and Jetstar and they all give me different responses. The last agent from Jetstar was insistent that I would be able to and even noted it in my booking. I'm pretty sure if I turned up at the airport and this was wrong I wouldn't be able to do anything about it though.

Does anyone know someone who's had Jetstar transfer their luggage from a domestic flight to an international flight on another airline?

Jetstar will transfer, and that page you link gives an indication of the airlines that they will transfer to. There is one. big, giant caveat with it all, and on the page. it is the words 'on the same booking'. So, if you are on separate bookings, it may not work.

My understanding of JQ interlining bags to other airlines is that they will from a JQi flight to any carrier they have an interline baggage agreement with irrespective of whether it's the same pnr or not eg CNS JQi SYD QF LAX or DRW JQi SIN EK DXB. The clause about being in the same pnr will probably be touted in the case of a disrupt situation where you'll be told to contact the other airline directly should you miss a downline connection as a result of JQ running late.

I don't know of any cases where bags are checked through from a JQ domestic flight to any airline - not even a JQi flight. I would expect this to be the case wherever JQ operate domestic flights in a country whether it's BNE/SYD, WLG/AKL, HAN/SGN ie expect your bag to be checked in on a point-to-point basis only & have to recheck at your destination.

I think in your case you'll need to collect your bag in AKL & check in again with EK.

This time last year i had a QF booking from Queenstown to Brisbane via Auckland (all on the booking ref). Queenstown to Auckland was with Jetstar.

On that trip the bag required collecting in Auckland and rechecking with QF. That was a year ago though, something may have changed.

I rang Qantas and the lady spoke to her Supervisor but even they weren't sure after I linked them the Jetstar webpage about Flight Connections above. She said they will ring Wellington Airport and confirm with Jetstar check-in staff there. I will post the outcome here.

I also rang the Jetstar call-centre and the agent I spoke to was insistent that it was possible because they had an interline agreement with Emirates. He even said that he would note it on my booking. I know that realistically it won't make a difference at the airport though if it wasn't actually in line with their policy.

I think the big issue here is that people need to look at interlining in two ways:

a) JQ international to an international airline (when they will interline)

b) JQ domestic to an international airline (when they won't interline)

I think that point gets missed by staff despite the best intentions of call centre staff.

Like you said if it can be done it will as 'notes on bookings' are just that & have no influence on the checkin process.
