My wife passed away two weeks ago and I am now getting her affairs sorted out (a rather large job). She has held a life membership of the Qantas Club for over thirteen years and my question is there any way this membership can be transferred to myself. I have been an FF member for this time also, currently with Bronze status.

Re: QF club Membership

Sorry to hear of your loss.

I haven't looked at the terms of the program, but imagine that the membership is for one individual, and is non-transferrable. That said, the same is also true of points, they officially have no value and when Qantas learns of someones death the account is closed and the points taken. If your wife has any remaining points, I would recommend logging in and doing a family transfer to yourself.

Re: QF club Membership

Sorry for your loss lastrow,

Unfortunately as per the terms and conditions of the Qantas Club (https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/qantas-club-terms-conditions/global/en) memberships cannot be transferred to another member except in certain circumstances relating to Corporate Memberships and membership is terminated upon the death of a member.

5.7 Membership will terminate automatically on the death of a Member. Qantas will terminate the Member's account on receipt of notification of the death of the Member.
5.8 Except as specified in these Terms and Conditions, membership is non-refundable and not transferable.
I echo samh004 and get me outta here'scomments on logging into your wife's account and transferring any remaining points to yourself before the account is closed.

Sorry to hear.

Rescue the points.

Or don't notify Qantas of the passing of your wife. There is not requirement for you to tell them.

Re: QF club Membership

Hi to all who have replied and thank you for your unanimous advice.
I transferred all my wife's points a little while ago (before she died) so this is done.
It looks like her Qantas FF membership will be interred with her remains.
No more free booze and comfy seats for me unfortunately but I will remember many happy hours in many airport lounges around the world.

Re: QF club Membership

lastrow, that is sad news on many fronts. Read a lot more threads to build up points for a J or F flights so that you can go into lounges.

Re: QF club Membership

Interestingly, the Termination section (9) of the T&Cs does not have an exclusion for termination on death of the member. Therefore a strict reading of the T&Cs would suggest that if QF terminate the membership under S5.7, a pro-rata refund would be due.

(I'm not sure how that would be calculated for a life membership however!)
