Transfer Sydney Domestic to Sydney International Terminal Option

Looked up Sydney airport info page and it is pretty useless.
How hard is it to WALK these days?
Is is really clearly signposted? How many meters?
Google says 3.6kms and 43 minutes via Airport Drive
I think the best answer will be 400 bus one stop after 6.30PM weekday is the go
and 2nd place offpeak train for something under $6.00 and about the same for T Bus or whatever.
Assuming you do not hold a major ticket.

I've seen people walking it along Airport Drive, usually with a backpack as luggage. I'd suggest Google's pretty accurate with the distance. As for time: it's a flat walk, would depend at what pace you walk. I find the T-Bus most convenient. You only have to walk outside the terminal to catch, and drop-off is to the terminal door. The train involves multiple escalators. I know nothing of the "400 bus."

I regularly walk between Wolli Creek/T1 and Mascot station/T3 but would not consider walking between terminals unless I had hours to spare and was keen for some exercise. Personally I would take the 400 bus, or the train. The train takes just a few minutes and from memory costs $5-6.

The #400 bus is the way to go. Picks up directly outside the Qantas T3 and drops off directly outside International T1. Runs about every 15-20 minutes. Cost is about $1.70 on Opal in peak hours. You want the service to Burwood. http://www.sydneybuses.info/routes/400_20130429_tt.pdf

Seriously though, I agree that the walk between the terminals isn't the best.

I sat next to a girl who was flying to Melbourne on QF after flying UA to Sydney. She said she just takes a taxi. She said the taxi drivers get REALLY pi#&ed off, but she seemed to have a thick skin. TECHNICALLY I suppose the drivers can't deny the fare.

Better than walking though... Imagine if you happened to be walking at the same time Dr. Ralph was on the road!

The Information counter at Sydney airport has amnesia or dementia when you ask about the public buses or bus it to Green Square first. Of notable comment I cant think what other airport makes you pay for a transfer and has no pedestrian tunnel- very uncool. Then there is the train station fee that is $6 that is two 'access fees'.
With airfares under 8 cents per km it is about airport robbery and racketeering.

Not sure about this getting the bus to green square. Much more sensible to go to Mascot.
As for the $6 fare, seriously that's not much at all. The $6 is a special price that doesn't actually involve 2 gate access fees. Also worth remembering that the minimum train fare, i.e. the cost of just getting on a train, is something like $3.80. So the premium is more like $2.20, or $1.10 for each station.

They were walking along Airport Drive in the break down lane, pushing a bag right next to traffic including large trucks.

It was dark at 5.30am.

Personally I almost always use the train, the frequency of services is pretty good and I don't exactly mind the walk down to the station (since I have typically just been sitting for the last hour and a bit, and am about to be spending many many hours sitting again).

There are also lifts down to the train, if escalators are too difficult.

$1.70 is cheaper than $6 dollars. Not much is relative - or a point of principal.
If you are not in a hurry,or timing works out - go for it. Observe the Chinese, Brazil and NZ passengers on the 400 knowing that overall journey time is little changed. I note transfer in Changi is free and that $9 gets you on a minibus to the City. I expect the $6 train fare is there to stop Sydney being an international laughing stock of botched highly visible PPP agreements that fail economic rationality and maximum use. There is still no excuse for visitor information to withhold available choices.

To avoid the expensive train fare from SYD T3 into I got Uber from T3 to Mascot Suburban which cost $3.20 then purchased an Opal card from the Spar supermarket around the corner from the station as the State Rail ticket office did not sell them. I think you may be able to purchase Opal card from the Domestic Airport railway station but not 100% sure.

I believe UberX can now pick up from the airport but at the time I had to click on a pickup point just outside the zone then call the driver and ask him to collect me from T3.

Isnt the Opel airport fee around $12 on the train? Makes the Terminal shuttle bus seem reasonable and low hassle factor. Either that or Uber...

Catching the 400 bus involves an airport fee so is not really that much cheaper than the shuttle bus...
