Transfer Sydney Domestic to Sydney International Terminal Option

All very interesting. I've just learned that I can do the Int-Dom train journey for $3.18 (Opal Gold Card). I'm assuming then I could go anywhere on the transportnsw network for $7.40, if changing at Mascot (or $2.50 if taking the 400 bus).

However, it appears the station access fee for Green Square is $8.

Whilst its discussed above I also thought I'd set out the current Airport Gate fees (which only apply to trains). This applies in addition to the normal distance bands (starting at $3.38 peak for 0-10km and $2.36 off-peak)
- Airport - Airport - $2.
- Airport - Mascot/Green Sq - $5.40
- Airport - Other stations - $13.40 Adult / $12 Non-Adult
- All subject to a weekly $25 Adult Cap / $22.50 Non-Adult

Yes, but the info from Transport Info - Public Transport Information for Sydney & NSW | transportnsw.info indicates the total fare to Mascot station (for me, at least) is $6.58 off peak.

Adult Fare - $2.36, Access Fee - $5.40, Total - $7.76
Concession - $1.18, Access Fee - $5.40, Total - $6.58.

But probably more sensible to get the 400 bus if I wanted to go to Mascot station at a cost of $2.50.

Thought I'd jump on this old thread as it's directly relevant to a question I have.

I am departing Syd International on Monday 9th July flying Qantas. As a Sydney local (well, Central Coast but near enuff!) I will be driving to the airport. Arrive back 31 July.
Will have myself & 2 other pax, so 3 of us all up.

Q1. The Blu Emu carpark is significantly cheaper than other car parks so likely I will park there. Online quote says $149, as opposed to P7 Parking which is $275. Any other (better) options than Blue Emu? I always park there anyway for domestic flights so am very familiar with the routine, shuttle bus etc.

Q2. This is my main question. Getting from the Blu Emu shuttle bus drop-off point to International? Catch the train? We all have Opal cards but the Opal website is vague about the Airport Access Fee. It says "When tapping on or off at Sydney Domestic or International Airport stations, a station access fee of $13.80 for Adult...applies". But there is enough anectodal evidence including this thread which seems to suggest that the Airport Access Fee doesn't apply when travelling between terminals but I have seen no definitve statement to that effect on the Opal website.

Q3. I could try the Qantas shuttle bus (free) between Domestic and International but one is supposed to be connecting from domestic to international flights to be eligible for this. I am not strictly coming into SYD on a domestic flight, but once again, this thread seems to indicate that if I flash my international tix, I should get on. Is that right? I don't have to book for this shuttle bus do I, just rock up & hope my party of 3 is allowed on?
I guess if they don't let us on, I can catch the train (pending Q2 above).

Q4. Uber? It would be easy to be collected outside the Blu Emu gates for a quick (hopefully) trip to International terminal. Opinions?

My suggestion would be:
From dropoff point:
1. Enter Domestic terminal and go airside
2. Find Internation Transfer gate, they will ask to see proof of International flight so it helps if you have a paper eticket
3. catch the transfer bus to International terminal for free.

Going back... That's where you'll have trouble as you need proof of domestic flight for all passengers. So maybe Uber it or taxi it to the other terminal or all the way to the parking lot.

Using Opal card and train will be your easiest and most reliable option, IMO.

Using Opal card, Domestic to International or vice versa is $5.28 during peak and $4.26 during off peak. In both cases, this fee is made up of the standard NSW fee + a minimal gate access fee for airport transfer (so $3.38 + $1.90 peak and $2.38 + $1.90 off peak). I believe to purchase a single-trip transfer (non-opal) between these two is now $6, and the bus transfer is also $6 per person. Terminal Transfer | Go To and From | Sydney Airport

You can take bags airside in domestic, they just won't be allowed on a flight. How else would people be able to check-in at the Qantas club otherwise???

Assuming the bags fit through the security scanners and you're not rejected at the security point. That said, have you tried checking in for an international flight at a domestic terminal? I have been checked into an international flight from Canberra before it was an international airport, as the QANTAS systems allow you to check bags through from a connecting domestic flight... Therefore I'd imagine if you're flying QANTAS or Virgin Internationally, you'd be able to check your bags at domestic.

Based on distance to terminal... you have to catch a transfer bus from Blue Emu to the terminals, whereas P7 is a short walk from T1.

AFAIK you can't check-in at the QC with checked baggage - you do it at the check in before security. Check in at the Qantas Club is for HLO according to the QF website.

That said, have you tried checking in for an international flight at a domestic terminal? Therefore I'd imagine if you're flying QANTAS or Virgin Internationally, you'd be able to check your bags at domestic.

No, I haven't tried it but I think it is destined to fail (especially in SYD or BNE where the terminals are separate). The check in for an International flight at the domestic terminal is intended for those taking a domestic flight then connecting elsewhere to the international flight. The baggage is tagged through, but goes out the back on the conveyor for loading to a domestic flight at that terminal. The terminal has facilities to get arriving baggage off a domestic flight, and transfer it to the international terminal, but I would think it unlikely that they cater for checking the baggage to be loaded. I think it far more likely that you just get told to take your bag yourself to the appropriate terminal to check in.

Fair enough. I tend to carry hand luggage only if I can, so as to avoid problems like this (yes even international). If you have luggage, catch a cab or uber - seriously???
