Top Three Holiday Photos

I think @TheRealTMA recommended this place but it popped up in my memories today

Can't remember why it didn't get a 10 but my note says 9/10 for the hot chocolate

Berlin

Käthe Kollwitz's "Mother with her Dead Son" inside the Neue Wache building on Unter den Linden. The building serves "as the ‘Central Memorial Site’ of the German state, a place of national remembrance dedicated to the victims of war and tyranny." She lost her own son in WW1.

Verdun 2011

We had a overnight stopover and only had time for a quick look at the place. It is not the most attractive of towns. It was basically demolished in WW1 when it was the site of possibly the longest battle of WW1 and where nearly 400,000 French and German soldiers were killed. The areas we saw had mostly been rebuilt in utilitarian 1920's style.

The entrance to the citadel. "The underground citadel of Verdun boasts 7km/4.3mi of galleries equipped to meet the needs of an army: bakery, kitchens, field hospital, telephone exchange, ammunition dumps, etc" . We did a tour in a little 'tram" Home - Citadelle souterraine de Verdun

You can get an idea of the strength of the citadel from this photo
