"Plant more trees" that's Abbott's response to the environment and combating climate change:-

Taxpayers to foot bill for big polluters under opposition plan

Oh not to mention, the burden upon the australian taxpayer.

Good on you Tony, it appears those bushwalks when you were young put you in good stead to care for the environment

So Tony is sneaky - he accuses the Govt. of "a great big new tax" with its ETS but he funds the environment with a "stealth Tax" or a hidden tax.

I'm sure he will be able to say he will fund it through savings made elsewhere in the budget.

That sort of argument has, to me, always been spurious. If the savings are there to be made, then make them anyway. Additional expenditure is always just that - additional.

Both sides play the same numbers game.

And the fairy Ruddfathers payments to low income earners to counteract the increase in charges due to his ETS was going to cost less than $3.2 billion-Hey come and see me I have a few bridges to sell.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Wasn't the compensation going to come from selling carbon credits?

In the end, it's all going to cost something and the funds have to come from somewhere. It is not a cost-less exercise as Abbott claimed initially.

More like a Cost LESS plan.

I suppose increasing a families cost of living by $1100 PA would be a lot more noticable than the Abbot scheme.

Not to mention the Australian government is trying to commit to a proposal that would send $7 billion PA of Government revenue directly offshore.

And that will do more damage to Australia than our extremly small carbon footprint. Even Abbotts plan goes to far for this Country and its people.

Whether Abbott's scheme is funded via savings or by increases in expenditure there is still an opportunity cost which impacts indirectly on taxpayers. It's just that many will not realise they are being conned by Abbott. Much the way he conned his paramour into giving him "her most precious gift" that he now wants his daughters to save for the sacrament of marriage - what a hypocrite!!!

If you believe that you have been conned by the media. Have you even read the article?

This is what Abbot said in that Woman's Weekly interview:
It (sex before marriage) happens ... I think I would say to my daughters if they were to ask me this question ... it is the greatest gift that you can give someone, the ultimate gift of giving, and don't give it to someone lightly, that is what I would say.
Nothing about "saving for the sacrament of marriage".

He never said that, however the media want to spin it.

In fairness to Abbott, I think the media has blown his comment about virginity out of proportion. Women's Weekly asked him about what kind of advice he would give to his daughters, and not women in general. In that context I think that comment is quite fair.

And I'd like to direct people's attention to this rather balanced op ed published by the Fairfaxistas, who aren't exactly known for their radical right wing tendencies (yes there I said it, I've conceded that Fairfax is capable of quality journalism...):

Know thy enemy. ;) Credit where its due though. And in no way am I endorsing every single article she's written.

When the shops are closed, it's time to check out the Daily Hate Mail for a good laugh.

Every time he has done something I consider silly (Ironing remarks, non-market based CPRS, weighing in on virginity etc...) he seems to have gained a lift in the polls...

So he will do very well with this one :D
