TomCat's new digs!

Most definitely. I figure a couple of hundred is the least they can do given I have to look at the door every day.

Final invoice has gone to the bank, so we’re waiting on their valuation to release the funds. Plus rectifications and an occupation certificate, and a handover date.
Nearly there but I bet this last bit will feel like it drags on forever. :)

Fortunately I've got plenty to keep me busy over the next few weeks (a certain someone is having a big birthday this weekend).

They aim for 2-3 weeks from presentation to hand over, but will depend on how they fix the ensuite bench. The rest is relatively minor.

So no handover date yet. Planning to follow up before the end of the week to see if they have any idea of when. We're on a bit of a time crunch given we have two holidays planned next month.

Also need to follow up regarding the fill they spread all over the back yard. Its full of construction rubble  Really annoyed that they've spread contaminated/dirty fill over what was a completely clean site.

Blinds were all installed last week; really happy with the quality and colour choice (light grey).

And this is the mystery pink mark on the ensuite bench that may result in the whole thing being pulled apart.... its actually in the laminate so likely they cant just get rid of it. Why it wasnt picked up before installation is a mystery to me :(

That's a PIA with the soil. Do you mind me asking who did you use for your blinds? Am having to get quotes for whole house now.

The blinds were done by Lovelight but directly through the builder (as part of our contract).

I'm hoping to get them to remove the soil, there was really no need to add it at all. Its not rubble from our build.

Which makes it more of a rubbish dump if it’s not from your site. Very annoying if the soil prior was good.

Exactly. I want to raise it as a health/safety issue given we dont know the origins. How are we to know it doesnt contain asbestos or something else nasty?

Had a good chat with our supervisor today. He's been on jury duty and pretty unimpressed to come back and find nothing has been done on our place in his absence.

He's following up to find out when the bench and scratched screens can be replaced. He's also investigating the soil; sounds like it wasnt done at his request so its possible someone else in the estate has dumped in there. Either way its their site so their job to hand it back clean, so he will likely get someone to come in and remove it all.

The hiccup being that our fences finally started today (three weeks late, and only because I told the guy that I couldnt move in till they were done ). A panel of fencing will probably have to be removed to allow them to remove the soil, but we figured that was better than telling the fencing to leave a panel off; he's likely to bugger off and not do the job at all by the sound of it. Apparently he doesn't like the soil....o_O

At this rate its likely we'll move after our travels next month, rather than rush in. But thats ok.

I think all of this is a wise plan. A delay moving in now in the overall scheme of things won’t matter in 6 months time. It’s pretty simple I think to remove a panel once the fence is up. The soil issue sounds like someone has tried a swifty. They don’t know you thinking they could get away with it. Although I think many would likely notice. Maybe some might just suck it up but you’ve commented previously on how good the soil is so a clean out is in order.

We've decided if we get the keys before our holiday then we will spend the time putting in all the light fittings, towel rails etc, and start prepping the back yard for turf. Then we can take our time moving in over cup weekend. Still no word on a handover date so looking pretty unlikely to be any time in the next week or so. Also no idea if my fencing is finished; so much for being booked for September 10

The council tells me our tree is a Eucalytus torquata, which is a flowering gum. It's commonly used as a street tree.

E. torquata in bloom in its native range at Coolgardie today. These specimens are probably stockier and thicker than usual because they are growing in disturbed ground with an adjacent ditch next to the town reservoir.

They look lovely, thought hopefully ours stays a lot smaller.

Someone in our estate had their entire house emptied overnight. Makes more more determined that we don't move until we're done with our holiday. Must also organise security doors.

When you posted you were going to get keys before your holiday, I was wondering if your house would be safe. Can you leave handover until after your holiday, for insurance purposes/builder is responsible?

So someone drove up with a van and took everything? Bloody cheeky buggars.
