TomCat's new digs!

Sounds to me like an excuse to me. It was it was bought for a private purpose irrespective of who actually bought it. (You're not running a hotel I assume)
It's a supplier thing, not the builder (ie Reece plumbing). I thought the same but apparently its a commercial purchase. Based on the price we paid the builder, they clearly get a good discount.
The guy who I'm dealing with said he'd love to sneak it through but would get in trouble for it. He's been good with everything else so can't fault him.

Still sound sus to me.

Reece discounts vary greatly. Purchased gas hwu last year, retails $1400 - $1500. I paid $1000.
Yet some items are only a few $ cheaper than retail.

When it rains it pours. Literally. Our rear and side neighbours landscaped last year and their vegetation of choice was concrete. With both properties being slightly higher than us, you can guess where all the excess water ended up 😭

Our backyard has been a squelchy swamp all winter so we bit the bullet and had a pair of plumbers do our drainage over the weekend. Good bye lovely green lawn, we now have a big trench along the back and down the middle, collecting all the excess water and taking it down the storm water system.

And the biggest pile of dirt (aka clay) that we are currently getting rid of.

We got just over half into the skip last night, hoping to finish off tonight.

I'm rescuing some of the grass in hopes of patching it up.

Such inconsiderate neighbours  (know that feeling). But don't get mad, get even. Your house and land is a lot more saleable with a back garden and grass with perfect drainage, than a concrete monstrosity. The grass will grow back. Nuture it and summer will do the rest

It will be worth it in the end. Water run off is so destructive. Damn annoying though. The lawn will pick up surprisingly well. Could even buy a small slab from Bunnings and cut it into smaller chunks. Keep it watered 🤦‍♀️when warm - which it finally is in SA today.

The grass is buffalo, so it should regrow over the trench fairly quickly, especially over spring/summer. Just figure a few extra patches can't hurt.

There were a couple of additional grass patches in that clay pile - on the RHS. Trim off some of the bottom dirt (clay) and make sure it has wet feet for the first few weeks. Watch it grow daily...

Yep, they're the ones I've used. I've got a couple more buried in there that I'm planning to use.

Thankfully there's no water running towards your house which would give you more grief.
Fortunately the slope of the yard was mostly keeping it away but I imagine it would have got closer the longer we left it.

The excess soil is all gone as of last Friday. Kids enjoyed watching the skip being hauled away.
The trenches are filled and the lawn has been aerated and fertilised. Fingers crossed we're good as new soon20221025_101216.jpg
