Hey guys,

Just heading out to Tokyo next week. I'll be leaving Tokyo late at night to return to SYD, and will probably head out to Narita and spend the last few hours there. What are the facilities like? Importantly, do they have showers?

Thanks for any info on this...

i'm going to be in transit in tokyo soon and have 9 hours to kill

the information i have is that the Qantas lounge is actually a shared lounge (well someone elses lounge that Qantas has access to) and does not have showers

if you have a diners club card the diners lounge has showers apparently

HardieBoys, durham70's information is spot on (also confirmed by the Qantas Club lounge information.

No QF lounge (only one operated by JAL), no showers, no telephone/fax access. Knowing that it will take you a couple of hours to get out to Narita, I still wouldn't hurry from the delights of down-town Toyko (but I suppose that might be difficult given you may have luggage).

Thanks guys... we won't count on being able to shower at Narita before boarding.

This is my first time in the 'yo... what do people recommend seeing?

Hmm, depends on what your tastes are - shrines, sumo wrestling, architecture...then again, I preferred not to spend a lot of time in TKO (in the 2 times I visited Japan).

Still no better memory than the side-walk beer dispensing machines (cans), then hopping on the Shinkansen Bullet Train - have my photo somewhere with beer in hand next to the speedometer (doing some hair-raising speed) and generally being an Aussie lad (well, it was 1991...those were the days).

Speaking some Japanese (even badly) will go a long way:

Sumi masen, watashi wa nihon go o hanashi masen (translation: excuse me, I don't speak Japanese) will get you a long way...

Phonetically:

Sue-me mar-sen, wah- tashi wah knee-hon goh oh hana-she ma-sen

(First marriage was to a BNE girl, a Japanese speaking QF BNE-based CSA, so I used that phrase on a 2 week trip there for a Japanese wedding to which we were invited)

While theres a lack of showers.... they do have the coolest beer pouring machine in the world! :D :D :D

I have an old Japanese phrase book that I'll take. Interestingly, it has phrases like:

Pama wa karuku kakete kudasai
(Please give me a light perm)

but doesn't seem to have basic things like the numbers one, two or three...
