Ok guys, no double status email here unfortunately!

I am travelling a fair bit these days, and have until July 31 to earn 420 more status credits to hit platinum.

I'm based in Sydney - worth the cash or should I sit on gold for another year?
Open to routing suggestions as well

Thanks for the help!

Do you expect to be travelling internationally a lot in the coming year, or going via MEL or SYD Flounges? Or if you’re more of a domestic traveller, would visiting the J lounges and having anytime access be of use to you?

From SYD there are quite a few good options, like LAN or Air Pacific.

How many points have you got, the J ASAs are a good way of racking up SC's, 32000 points and $138 will net you 200 SCs and 5000 points for the travel in a weekend, one night away required, so the net cost is 27000 points + $138. Dazz81 found that one!

Thanks for the reply guys. After I hit post I saw a bunch of similar threads come up and read about the benefits. Any time access would definately be of interest to me, I live close to sydney airport and reguarly meet transiting passengers for a beer. Frustrates me that I can't get them in on gold.

I forgot to add I have just booked a Buenos - Iguazu return this week on LAN Chile, can anyone help me figure out how many SCs that will net? Fully flex economy.

I've got around 300,000 points left at the moment, I think the ASA's sound like a great option! Where would I be heading to Markis?

I think you might enjoy a nice weekend away, you have to get to CBR and the max SCs mean you route back via SYD:

Sorry I'm a bit of an idiot tonight (3am in buenos aires!). How am I meant to get to Canberra?

Grab a normal flight, using points is expensive, or grab a cheap J flight for 40 SCs at $340 each way to make it a totally J weekend!

How do you work out the SCs on a routing like this? I've got the double SCs email and I could do with a small status run before 30 June (I think that's when it runs out) just to keep me on target for my November anniversary date.

40 SCs CBR-SYD then 60 SYD-HBA, or you can use the QF points calc since its all QF.

I'd need to travel in late June to take advantage of the double-SCs promo and those flights are either too many points as Any Seat Awards or quite a few dollars. I've read your posts about BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN, etc but, again, it's tough to find good value in late June. Have you got anything else in the status run hat or have I left my run too late? :)

The HBA run is 32000 points for the whole trip, you wont get better value as an ASA AFAIK.

BTW the NAN run is available everyday to June, you just cannot take the SYD-NAN run till later in the year, still nets 200 SC's with the double up and leaves 80 SCs in the bank when you do the NAN leg.

I'm not sure what an ASA is, but when I searched it I couldn't find flights in late June for 32,000 points. I found the first sector for around 20,000 points but couldn't get back for anywhere near this. Remember I'm trying for June (to take advantage of double-SCs) not July. Am I looking at/doing the wrong thing?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

CBR-MEL_HBA is still available, you loose 20 SCs via MEL so its 160 SCs each way when doubled:

Any seat award...

Have a look for the flights around 20,000 each then when you get to the next page, move the bar down to the lowest level and you'll see it for the cheaper points..

I can do it via SYD during that week (ie on weekdays) for 42,000 points so it's probably worth doing that for the extra SCs - I don't go into the office much so it doesn't really matter to me when I go. I'll (quickly) think about it.

Do you happen to know of anything that will earn more SCs at a good rate before 30 June that isn't an ASA?

Only thing i can think of is a AKL-SYD on LAN... Not really too much in australia afaik for a fully paid fare.

LA ECONOMY BUENOS AIRES/IGR AIRPORT/BUENOS AIRES
1312 QF points 30 SCs....did it earlier myself this year;)

Note: Points are not earned in GKLMNOQSV classes on domestic flights within Argentina
