I find it interesting that India only has one time zone despite being nearly 3000km east to west (for reference Australia is about 4100kn).

China has one time zone as well and is 3,500km east to west.

Yeap, right now working on a software project which needs to take into account all timezones in the world and adjust itself appropriately. To say getting the timezone stuff right is difficult would be an understatement.

And South Australia has just abandoned plans to change to VIC/NSW time.

The South Australian government decided not to wind their clocks forward half an hour to match East Coast, this is after actively considering the proposal.

The Business leaders are very annoyed with the decision and claim that it would have given a boost to the economic growth of the state had the time zone changed, and the 30 minute change would have been worth $2.5 billion.


The proposed change drew criticism from West Coast communities who complained that their children would be leaving for school in the dark during winter and that early morning workers would also be affected.

I only skimmed through the link but I didn't see a mention of the country with the most time zones, which naturally enough is...France!
