Qantas Project Sunrise & A350-1000ULR Discussion

Actually, it’s supposed to say it’s double the typical longhaul crew size.

That’s a pretty significant overhead for ULR ops!

I guess though it takes 2 crews to get from Sydney to London, just that only 1 crew is on duty at a time - not 2. The other crew being in a hotel in Singapore.

But there’ll be another 2x crew in a hotel for PS!

Maybe even 4x if they get a longer layover time?

If you arrived a Monday, you'd leave Thursday. That means 2 crew already having rest, one arriving crew and one departing crew each day for a total of 3 sets of crew overnighting at any one time. That would increase if the rest was more than 3 nights.

theyre not already priced according to holiday traffic?
As I remarked in another thread, J fares from PER-CDG are consistently priced above $10K regardless of date of travel.
There doesn't seem to be much if any seasonal fluctuation any more.
This is leaving sales aside, as those discounts depend more on date of purchase than on date of travel.

This would only impact the polar route which QF say they'll only use about 20% of the time.

2 interesting and possibly related factoids:
Until 2008, MDY was subsidised by Boeing- perhaps Airbus could step up?
Also the tourism program has been suspended since 2012 so there is little direct incentive to upgrade the strip
I'd need to see the actual polar routes, but Midway has been used for many Pacific crossings, literally forever. It's not something that has appeared with Sunrise.

A pretty safe bet QF1 and QF2 will be the flight numbers for Sydney - London nonstop.

The existing A380 service via Singapore is being re-numbered to QF5/6 from 31 October 2027.

Yep, Qantas have just posted on Facebook around 15mins ago stating that QF1 / QF2 will be SYD-LHR non-stop and QF5 / QF6 will be SYD-LHR via SIN.

I think I'd still prefer QF5 / QF6. Being on a plane for that length of time even if I was in First - no thanks.

At least on Emirates you can have a shower to break up the time, and visit the bar.

But in reality it’s only another 4 hours added on to the bill, it goes pretty quickly.

I guess QF5/6 being the one stop hop from Singapore means Qantas are not going to reserve QF1-10 for Project Sunrise then (or at least in the interim)

Did they say what the current QF5/6 PER-FCO services become?

So much shuffling of flight numbers!
