Tiger slashes Alice to Adelaide route - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Tiger Airways will suspend flights between Alice Springs and Adelaide because of a decline in passenger numbers.
The airline has confirmed the flights will stop at the end of next month, but says the route could be reinstated if demand increases.

Probably not a big deal to most people on this forum but obviously effects people like myself who depart for all my journeys from ASP. I did not fly Tiger for a lot of the reasons most people on this forum do not fly them, but it certainly made a huge difference to the prices when they were on the route.

Pre Tiger it was almost a constant $220 ASP-ADL (or vv) and during Tiger it has seen QF go as low as $99 one way. Like when Virgin was doing the route though it comes down to the fact that there isn't just quite enough load for 2 aircraft, and the route is sufficiently long in distance that load factors need to be high to get your monies worth.

I am interested to see where QF fares go from here on in from ASP-ADL.

Curiously Tiger doing the MEL->ASP route has never really seen much of a drop on QF prices there, maybe that route is sustainable for 2 charging almost "full" price.

Perhaps this is why TT are dropping the route. If no one flys them but everyone enjoys the discount prices on QF they have no need to fly the route empty and the prices rise again.

I am not saying everyone should fly TT but if not enough people fly on the routes they get dropped and the price rises again.

TT are great for keeping the prices lower.

QF fares will more than likely go right back up. DJ have had the same problem in the past where everyone sticks to QF and enjoys the cheaper fares. They get what they deserve when the competition leaves.

For the first self funded flight in a long time I have booked my first TT flight, SYD-MEL. For $39 AI I just couldn't justify the extra $$ to fly QF.

How bad can it really be?!?! :D

I look forward to seeing you on Airways! ;)

They used to be 4 Daily MEL-ASP last year but looks like they have retreated back to 3 weekly.

Heard a rumour that SYD-ASP is coming late this year.

I guess I could write a TR on it.

Arrived at airport.
Got ticket.
Boarded plane.
Closed eyes.
Landed.
Disembarked.

If it all goes that well I'll be a happy camper.

Do you know you conditions of carriage and required timings etc?

Also are you WP? IF so - are you able to access the QP through any time access? That might remove the pain a little..

Seems strange to be considering SYD-ASP given ASP doesn't appear to be working too well for them!

The Feds in ASP will get bored now

Teenage daughters and myself have flown TT a number of times to Qld with no problems at all - I always consider TT

And I expect you expected nothing but a seat.
Provided you abide by the rules and expect nothing (aka a true LCC service) TT usually delivers.

I personally wouldn't consider TT as I do enough flying that I want the full service.

Yup read the tiger site and made sure I was ontime for CI and yes, I chilled in the QP while waiting for thr TT flight.

Well my first flight on TT was quite enjoyable. I would compare it to JQ to the tee.

2 spare seats next to me and an ontime departure and arrival, sweet as.

Adelaide numbers were always low to the Alice whilst Melbourne has always had high loads. Id say they will move Melbourne back to 4 Daily come summer.

The continuing tales of Tiger..or is it Tiger Tales??
They appear to do this with every route the take on.......
Darwin
Newcastle
the talk of them going to Avalon
In and out of FNQ (and they can JQ about Rockhampton!!)

A big bells and whistles launch followed by...."we have to continually review our routes"....."we may be back"....... if we can getv a full load!

This type of strategy just plays straight into the hands of the opposition....
you cannot rely on Tiger for long term travel..... here today gone tomorrow......
so the opposition like QF can continue to charge what they do...... and have pax book long term

Appears QF is pushing the region to QANTASLINK as they did last year with the ASP DAR route.......
