Tiger slashes Alice to Adelaide route - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
Probably not a big deal to most people on this forum but obviously effects people like myself who depart for all my journeys from ASP. I did not fly Tiger for a lot of the reasons most people on this forum do not fly them, but it certainly made a huge difference to the prices when they were on the route.
Pre Tiger it was almost a constant $220 ASP-ADL (or vv) and during Tiger it has seen QF go as low as $99 one way. Like when Virgin was doing the route though it comes down to the fact that there isn't just quite enough load for 2 aircraft, and the route is sufficiently long in distance that load factors need to be high to get your monies worth.
I am interested to see where QF fares go from here on in from ASP-ADL.
Curiously Tiger doing the MEL->ASP route has never really seen much of a drop on QF prices there, maybe that route is sustainable for 2 charging almost "full" price.
Tiger Airways will suspend flights between Alice Springs and Adelaide because of a decline in passenger numbers.
The airline has confirmed the flights will stop at the end of next month, but says the route could be reinstated if demand increases.
