While it does seem excessive, fees are not that hard to find on the Tiger site

Welcome To Tiger Airways

Its always been the "convenience fee" that gets me:

"All bookings made using an electronic form of payment will automatically be charged an additional convenience fee. "

As a small businees owner i love these sorts of things and the fact that people just wear it...

If i tried to charge my clients a "convenience fee" they would look elsewhere quite quickly! Mind you with some jobs i've used the golf club line on them - We take all care but no responsibility...

Depends on how much you undercut your competitors base prices by. If you charge $90 for a unit, and your competitor charges say $280 for more or less the same unit (with a few small extra frills), do you think your customers would mind paying a $5 "convenience" fee? I guess the flipside is why not charge $95 in the first place?

Doesn't sound too dissimilar to some other airlines. Try getting a refund for a non-refundable fare.

At Tiger, I wouldn't even bother with a refund, realistically there are two options -
  • consider your ticket a "throw away" (I have done this on occasion)
  • change your ticket online (I have also done this on occasion)
Although Tiger recently enhanced their (online) change fee (now $20:evil:), it is still the most competitive in the market! But a few things to note -
  • Unlike the QF system, you can not cancel your ticket and simply hold the credit electronically in your account to use within 6 months. Tiger is the same as Jetstar, you must change to another flight during the change process.
  • Unlike the JQ system, you are not confined to mere date changes. Just like the Qantas system, Tiger lets you change to any Flight irrespective of original route.
So once again, Tiger refund = NOT A GOOD IDEA, Tiger change = BEST COURSE OF ACTION.

within 6 months - this should read within original ticket validity period. Sorry I couldn't simply edit/change the post anymore.

I thought it was within 12 months of the original date of purchase.
Indeed, all(?) QF tickets are currently issued with a 12 month validity period, from date of purchase.

I phrase it this way, as there is a distinct difference to how TT & JQ ticketing works. Their tickets are valid until the end of time or the airline, which ever comes first (or your flight, if you miss it) - so long as you hold a confirmed ticket for future travel. So a Jetstar ticket could be valid for 3 years from the original date of purchase, as long as you keep changing the flight dates before the flight is due.
