Tiger announces daily MEL-CNS service

I for one, think this is great news. OK, I'd prefer if this were Virgin Blue, but thankful for the service nonetheless.

I regularly fly the Cairns-Guam-Cairns sectors on Continental Airlines. The return flight from GUM arrives into Cairns at 11.20pm. As we know there are no flights domestically out of Cairns after 8.15pm - so a 12.55AM "connecting" flight to MEL is most convenient. Beats spending a pointless night in CNS.

Hopefully the timings will be so successful that another carrier will compete.

I cant imagine the yield would be great at that time of night so you're unlikely to see DJ to MEL (BNE a distant possibility) and definately not QF.

JQ might be also possible (again, to BNE or MEL).

That GUM-CNS really arrives at a terrible time (friend was telling me about it today by chance!), I cant believe that they dont do a timing to connect to the east coast capitals any better.

How many of the five airbridges are in use between 0025 and 0055 hrs ?
Most if not all, as the majors sit o/nite at these gates for early a.m. departures.

Last flights into CNS terminate around 2200 - 2300 from (bad) experience.

Q'Link B717s usually also o'nite at the airbridges prior to NT legs and beyond.

As long as you have a Plan B! You have 50 mins from arrival to get to Tiger check in desk for the 45 minute cutoff. Prospects are better if you have no luggage and can do OLCI. And then of course there's the prospect of changes if flights schedules, which are of course unheard of with Tiger ;)

Maybe Tiger is thinking ahead for the parallel runway proposal at CNS (see Cairns Airport Strategic Development Plan) for a shorter additional runway east of the airport access road.
Goodbye mangroves:evil:

I guess Plan B is the current situation of spending a night in CNS. You are right though; a bit tight. That lonely night time walk from INTL to Domestic (or vice versa) where you have to dodge the cane toads is always a bit precarious.

Tiger Axes Cairns REDEYE flights.

I dont know the details , but I think redeye is gone from mid July 2011.

Then I find they have switched me to a daytime flight, no email nothing.

I know they have a lot on their plate, but no email. How negligent. (assuming the flight is going on the day).

Lol seems a bit funny that they choose to axe that flight at this time!
Hmmm, it may also be everything else :p

Odd their system still show red-eye ex CNS in late Jul and Aug on the couple of dates I checked (although different departure times.
Jul after 2am and Aug just after 1am for those brave enough to book

I think you should be booking an alternative carrier.:mrgreen: Tiger is truly hopeless.
