Hi everyone,

I've checked quickly through the TID PDS (and through this forum), but couldn't find the answer.

I'm currently scheduled to fly QF9 MEL-DXB and QF1 DXB-LHR later this year (with 2.5hrs in transit, I am not intending to leave the airport). I was wondering whether I would need to buy cover for Dubai in addition to the UK in order to be fully covered. I am not keen to have my luggage delayed into London, and the insurer not paying because the cause of the delay was something to do with my transit in Dubai.

Any help is gratefully appreciated!

Yes do cover yourself in the UAE...though it might be transit, you are crossing into another country and if anything happened (luggage, flight delays, cancellations, illness, hijacking) you will be covered.
You will notice that the cost will go up a bit in your quote, but small price to pay for peace of mind.
TIDTHANKS will give you about 8% off also if you put into coupon code area.

Why not just go for an annual premium?

TID's annual policy has gone up this year by. Was $260 last year, I renewed last week and was $300 and that was after the discount (actually $320) For me it's worth it, however for others with short trips..depending on where you go and how long the policy can be quite cheap as a one off.

For the trip I was looking at, it was just over $140 without covering the UAE, or almost $190 with it (and I'm only in transit for a couple of hours each way). Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I'll take a look at some other providers that cover the UAE without such a big price difference. Currently investigating AusPost.

I used to use Defence Health a lot with their generous Rental excess for short trips, and policy is open to the general public. However TID annual policy keeps me happy.

Personally, (failing to find a cheaper option elsewhere) with such a difference in premium, I'd exclude that from the policy and just self insure for such simple transits. But that's me.

I seem to recall an earlier thread which specified that locations of transits are not of interest to travel insurers. You don't have to consider them in your planning/costing. A quick phone call to TID might save you unnecessary expenditure.

Fairly sure you don't need to include it, I read somewhere that you only need to include your main destinations, transit countries are covered.

I've read a lot of PDSs lately, though, so call them as I may be thinking about Columbus.
