Hi,

Can someone please tell me if I need to change anything here.

My wife has a Hong Kong (Chinese) Passport, her passport still has her maiden name. The ticketing (made via qantas online) has her Married name on it. We are going to Hong Kong, leaving from Brisbane int in a week, just wondering if there will be an issue here? and if so, whats the best solution.

Thank you

The name on the ticket and the name on the passport must match. What you have described is likely to cause problems.

Can I just bring marriage certificate? Or get the surname changed on the ticket to her maiden name?

thanks

As a marriage celebrant for some years now, I have advised people that upopn marriage if they hold an Australian passport and they are travelling overseas for their honeymoon then they can travel on their old passport, and have 3 months from the date of their wedding to change their passport into their married name for free, provided that they take am original government issued wedding certificate - not the one provided by the marriage celebrant (in many cases the ones we issue on the day can't even be used to change bank account details, drivers license, etc anymore).

For someone with an overseas passport, it is a little more tricky and uncertain. Partly depends on such things as a) is your wife now entitled to an Australkian passport; b) are you travelling on an Australian passport, and c) how long you have been married.

The fact that the name on the passport and on the travel documents are different is going to make a difference, and potential problems.- whether the airline will issue differnt tickets now, I don't know. If this is your honeymoon flight - check with the Chinese Consulate. If you have been married for some time, still check with them, but depending on upon the answres from above, might consider applying for a new passport pronto.

Good luck!

It will cause problems...

I have been standing at AKL airport behind a couple that had their tickets the married name, but the lady had her passport in her maiden name.

The check in agent refused to issue them boarding passes.

Get the tickets or passport changed pronto. If you call the airline and explain that the reason you are changing ticket names is because the passport doesn't match they may waive fees (but don't count on it).

they may waive fees (but don't count on it).

This is Qantas we're talking about, they never waive fees these days.

As the others have said, yes a definite problem, No you cant just take your marriage certificate, the easiest route would be to contact QF and ask about changing the ticket, but be prepared to pay both a change fee and possibly (depending on the fare booked) a fare difference also if that fare is no longer valid for sale (depends on the rules).

Good luck

Ok spoke with Qantas, They are going to re issue the ticked with correct name, fee was $80, so I'm happy with that, hassle free

thanks everyone.

Small price to pay to ensure the flight is hassle free.
