I'm starting to get the travel itch. It's been so long!!!!
I'm looking at going back to the USA which is where I usually go for a week in late Nov/Early Dec but OMG the prices!

When do we realistically think pricing will start to go down? I was used to paying around $800-$1200 max for a return economy seat, pricing seems to be over $2000 return

Searching google flights I’m seeing Air Canada in the $1200 return bracket. Qantas is close to $2000. Qantas’ flights might come down if they ramp up their A380 services. At the moment they only need to fill a couple hundred seats on a 787.

Oh lovely thanks for some reason air Canada didn’t appear
Will check it out

Awards are possibility.

I flew to the USA and back last month on awards and am booked to do the same in March.

There's plenty of Qantas economy around.

I’ve only got around 10K in Qantas points
Over 200K in velocity

Return Economy in March can be had on Delta for 89600 points and $260
That’s not bad at all
But I can’t go until after thanksgiving in November
Am I right that United will be the new USA partner for virgin? When does that start?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

April 1st IIRC, but by then the DL options are moot.
Thanks that’s when I thought
Will be interesting to see what the cost is with points - I didn’t want to wait that long to book but might just to see

Take some guidance from other routes. We need competitive pressure to drive prices.

I have been monitoring BNE-(SYD)-MNL which QF had available fares $1,200 - $2,200 on the dates I needed. SQ have now come online multiple flights per day with $800 return fares. Lower fares and flexible departure times. QF only have one flight to fill.

Good luck with finding a reasonable priced One Way hire car - I'm getting quotes of over US$3K for 21 days hire in Aug 22 for mid size SUV to drive Route 66.

I will return it to the same state most likely, take some extra time but visit will something something I haven't see before.
