What a bunch of %^%#$(

Deadset, they should be stripped of all credentials after serving in the front line of this catastrophe.

The 33 were part of a larger group of 77 medical professionals who had been attending a health convention on board the Roald Amundsen and Scenic Eclipse Antarctic cruises that were unable to berth in South America.

Read that as people who were having a tax funded holiday. That type of trip is very expensive and labelling it as conference is a farce.

More DYKWIA's to match the "Aspen" couple.

And those stupid doctors who wouldn't self isolate after arriving home this evening?

Ok - I admit I was confused by this. I thought returning passengers were allowed to catch domestic connections to self-isolation before midnight? So that group of returning doctors were ok to do what they did as regards to the actual law? Or did that change?

Changed as of yesterday.

Yeah - so I don't get why the new laws were applied to them, a day early? (I think them being in quarantine is the right thing, but not sure how they legally ended up there.)

Edited: I see - the new laws were apparently brought forward for anyone arriving back into Australia if they had come from a cruise ship.

Which makes perfect sense after the Ruby Princess debacle.

Being medics makes no difference - WA, SA, NT and Tassie have all closed their borders to FIFO doctors mandating that they all do 14 days of self-isolation. They've all taken a punt that that it's better to have their systems go short of quite a few specialists/locums than to have the system overwhelmed by coronavirus imported by travelling doctors into their states.

Plus... the group was stranded on board the ship before eventually arriving in Sydney via a series of charter flights.

The only all clear they had was from the ship:

"We were each furnished with a letter from the ship doctor and the ship captain saying we'd been at the ship from that time to that time and there were no known or suspected cases of coronavirus on board … and that nobody on the ship had any symptoms or suspected COVID-19."

So no one was actually tested for CV 19. Ruby Princess had no known CV19 cases either.

And after the ship they returned via a series of charter flights. There is simply no way that they can know that they have not be exposed to CV 19. There is simply no way that our officials can know that that are CV19 free. Our officials do know that international travellers are our main source of CV19 cases.

Our total cases are rising steeply still.

Quarantine for all, including DYKWIA's, is the right call.

That's about $40 grand a couple right there. I thought such rorts had been stopped. Apparently they were rounded up but escaped. They should be easy to track and some have been caught. We can hardly slam young people when entitled professionals show such blatant disregard for anyone.

By the way:

Ruby Princess cases nearly hit 300. There are now 171 cases in NSW linked to the ship and 122 interstate.

So yes anyone that has been on a cruise ship of any type returning to Australia now simply MUST be quarantined. That a person with a medical background could still think that they should be able to jump on other planes and fly home around Australia is simply outstanding.

In Tasmania, doctors flying in for service are given an exemption, but are under some tight movement rules.

But,but RooFlyer I haven't been on a cruise ship for 11 months. o_O 😞😞😞

It's easy to sprout off upon reading a headline.
These doctors did what they were told: The Big Hill The isolation rules started at midnight, not previously.

I found the relevant bit under here (your link points to a 2015 article), but I'm don't think it supports the point you were trying to make (its a page of statements and opinions by someone very stressed).

Again, very stressed, but I don't think the piece does them much credit, for instance

Back home everything is a shambles. “Cruise ship” is the new dirty word. It used to be you couldn’t say “bomb” or “Muslim” at airports. When we landed you say “we got off a cruise ship” and literally nurses in yellow paper gowns, blue gloves and face masks, Border Force with surgical masks on wrong, herd you like lepers up and down.

When all this is over I am going to ask Dr Laura Collie how she thinks an electronic signature on a template (where they spelled my Indian colleague’s name wrong) is an appropriate use of power for a PHO.

I’ve never met Dr Collie. Or the NSW CMO. They must have a tough job, to have so willingly ditched their colleagues under a bus like this.

Read the link in post #14, I see it has been fixed now.

I feel they should have been able to self-isolate at home, as they made it back before the deadline.

Also, I know they have far more restraint than I do, but I wouldn't be nearly as nice to AFP and Border Force if they were treating me like they are treating these (I presume) citizens. It's a complete farce of a system if you say the rule only comes in after a certain time, and then you change it to bend it to your will. Speaks of corruption. But whatever, I'm sure I'll have the usual members jumping on me for having a differing viewpoint 🙄

I read it, quoted from it, and posted the correct link myself. :)

Corruption? As in someone paid the officials to detain the pax? That is, beyond their regular salaries?

Speaks to me of a cough-up, unless, as has been posted up-thread, that the deadline was brought forward a day for those on cruise ships.

I wouldnt see that as corruption. Possibly over reaction and unsure of the new protocols. I've never understood why there is a wait period once the decision is made and plans put in place. Had the Ruby Princess fiasco not happened then likely people would not have been as reactive. Nothing personal involved. The whole Covid thing sucks for everyone.

There are plenty of reports on social media that this article is fake news. I would take it with a pinch of salt.

See, eg,
Reddit? Mmmm.

Given they had to isolate anyway regardless of where that occured, why are the Doctors now saying this has prevented them from treating patients? They were never going to be allowed to do that. And after a long cruise away from patients, well, that clearly wasnt an issue for them to take leave, knowing this evil virus was on its way here. Telehealth would allow them to be contacted while in isolation anyway. My understand is that the Provider number is not attached to a practice address while this virus is at play and where practioners have been put into isolation.
