Is like a train station. I miss the quiet of The Pier. Anyone know when it's reopening?

If I remember correctly, it not till next year.

I was there 2 weeks ago, I had to wait 5-10 minutes for a seat in the eating area.

How so? I'm trying to understand this, not because I don't believe you, but because for an open air lounge, it's probably still very good for ambience.

I prefer it to The Pier mainly because the latter has a ceiling which rebounds sound about. That said, you're right in that you don't get the noise of the gates and so on which is on the lower outside of the Wing. Maybe the new tiling and the clopping of shoes on the surface doesn't quite help things, but it also depends on how sensitive you are to noise.

Pretty gentle and short wait for a table there, to be honest, given the lounge numbers.

Note I'm mainly basing this on my experiences of the old Wing F before it was renovated. From what I understand, the capacity of the new lounge is not too different to the old one (especially in The Haven restaurant), just significantly face-lifted and includes solus chairs.

To me The Wing is not much of an F lounge, it's just a noisy business class lounge with better shower rooms and a la carte noodles. There isn't even bag storage.

Was the couple months ago about 25 people there thats all, depends on flights out.

There is baggage store, just inside the upper level entrance.

Well I was misinformed, sounded to me like they closed it, perhaps a communication issue. Mind you the whole airport was in turmoil yesterday, so perhaps it was just full or there was some other problem at the time.

Having passed through there again recently with the same confusion, I've decided to ask (here, not there).

At the top of the stairs/as you exit the elevator, if you turn right there's a sign that says 'First Class Lounge' with a little barrier rope thingy. That's where the cabanas are and he nice fancy restaurant.

But why does it have a sign and a barrier? Isn't that whole floor the F lounge? Or is it just for dedicated F passengers?

The Wing (Business and First) is spread over two floors, but the Business Class section includes part of the upstairs (Level 7), including the Long Bar. Hence the dividing rope to show where the Business and First Class sections are divided.

Of course, if you are able to access the First Class section (however possible), you are also allowed to access the Business Class section.

Since the upper section of the Business Class section cannot be accessed from Level 7 without passing through the First Class section, those who cannot access the First Class section must access The Wing via the entry on Level 6 (gates level).

Thank you both. It explains why the downstairs J section is otherwise uninspiring.

Very uninspiring. It's likely OK as a lounge goes, but without access to the F section I'd rather go to either The Bridge or the QF lounge.

As I said earlier, I miss The Pier F lounge, it was so quiet. Anyway, back there in a few weeks but might give the lounges a miss unless I feel like grabbing a shower.

The little extra section of F is due to the closure of the main Pier F lounge. I suspect once that lounge reopens the small section of the Wing will be given back to J pax. The F/J lounge areas will then be more distinct, with the F lounge ending at the restaurant door.

Me too, once you got over the lack of a view. I enjoyed parking myself on those big sofas right at the back by the Solus chairs. Very peaceful.

As for The Wing F, a few more options on the a la carte menu would be dandy. The kitchen must certainly have banged out a few chicken roulades in the last 18 months or so.

I've never been to any of the F lounges, but the Pier was definitely my pick for best J lounge.

I'm still hoping to get over there now I'm WP to try out the F lounges. One day ... .

mrpooky.

My experience of Pier J was that of a good lounge but one that got awfully crowded before the fleet of midnight departures.

By all means you should try a HKG visit to visit Wing F. I always enjoy a Moet in the Champagne Bar while packing away passport, boarding pass etc and then move through to The Haven for lunch or dinner. The table service back out in the main area of the lounge with the very comfortable leather armchairs and sofas is always welcome. It can be hard to find a decent seat there sometimes depending on the time of day but I always find I get there early to avoid the rush
