I'm looking for 64SC to get my Platinum, I have till end of Feb basically. Had a look at status run but everything seems super expensive atm

with the latest double status credit offer , Feb is the best time for your status run and maximise the SC earning. All the best.

Could I get some help too please? I need 81 Status credits to renew gold. What would be the best option, flying out of Sydney and return? Thanks!

When is your review date. If you wanna retain gold and can defer your travel till Feb 2023 ; there is a double SC offer which can help you with retaining your gold status. You will have to register for the offer before your journey so you benefit.

My review date is 28th February 2023. I've just figured that maybe business class to Brisbane and flex return will give my enough SC's. Probably about $550?

@Berrocca, what's your availability (weekends, weekday?). Is $550 worth retaining Gold. Of courrse, if there is a DSC offer then you won't need to spend as much.
Is $550 worth retaining Gold - this is a good question.
How much is Gold worth?
Therefore how much should you spend on a status run.
I guess there are many factors - e.g. how often you will fly over the next year.

For those interested, here's some sub $2.50/SC status runs with the DSC promo. Search window up until March 31 with promo code CDX47.

If you just want the cheapest option with the double sc promo you can get business class to OOL @$361, then a choice fare back @ $73 Tue Feb 7 for example, for <$440 (w/ disc CDX47).

morning, is there anyone that could give me a hand on how to accrue 660 S/C ex DRW during the promo period, does need to be over a weekend and must land back in DRW on a sun. I will achieve platinum in time for o/s travel later this year. Thankyou so much, edited to add .. interesting this is not my first post, but it has been a while .. I see the post count has been re-set

DRW-BNE-MEL return in J for about $1800.
Can be done in the weekend and would get you 780SC’s

Would wonder what the purpose of this would be if you need 660sc
Each to their own i guess, but flying this amount of sc just to get platinum when the gold benefits are quite similar seems pointless. I guess the wank factor comes into it.

some may view the benefits of Plat over Gold rather substantial.....free Economy X for your flying group, extra guests in lounge, 4 flex upgrades to J quite useful on east to west coast, not so much triangle flights.

I agree chasing 660 SCs a decent way off though, but as OP posted wants it for o/s flights later in year.

I made WP for the first time in 2022 and have since made the 800SC (which I was achieving in previous years, or close) to renew again in May.
Key benefit for mine is free Economy X. I generally only travel with Mrs Hawk so having 3 guests isn't a big thing, and the 4 flex upgrades are currently overrated when Flex and J are similar pricing when you buy with enough notice.
Having said that, if you're close enough to grab it, then why not?

For those flying a bit of long haul, the EY F lounge in AUH is still a good perk. As will be slightly better lounges now in DOH flying QR whY.

Some what academic now but the whY seat selection on the A330 was wildly different between VA WP and SG. I never got to fly the 777 but I imagine it was the same. If they ever get some wide bodies back that will be another WP perk to look forward to.

thanks for the comments and suggestions, the amount of credits required changed just before the offer was received I was only half of that away from achieving platinum.

I'll just follow up with the 4 flex upgrades. This value comes in flying East Coast to say Perth, even with plenty notice.
J fares even end of year are ~$1700, while flex at ~$600 so as long as reward seats available, then this WP perk is of great value.

Fair point. As someone who flies the triangle mostly there isn't much difference at the moment.

I'm looking at this, was wondering what fare class would this be booked in? Would this be Choice? What if I were to book in under Business? Would it be worth it? Thinking of doing a dash before March, on an overnight trip - thought of a day trip but I've no idea what to do for several hours at the airport or around the area!

Also, I'm over my 800 for this year (review on 28th Feb, have 994 for now). Does the excess roll-over?

I've 3 flights with flying to Singapore (booked with SQ flying PE) this year, and 1 domestic flight this year thus far.

Thanks a dozen guys.

It's business.

It's up to the individual as to whether it's "worth it". I'd say this is pretty good value given that it's 2 J sectors for $405 with double SCs.

Every status credit you earn has a 12 month expiry. The SCs that were earned less than 12 months from review will roll over but will diminish over time based on when they were earned.

I've just updated this article for 2023:

Quite a lot has changed since that article was originally published! The previous version of this article (from 2020) included gems such as the VA J runs to DUD and RAR, VA Premium Economy to LAX and Delta Comfort Plus.
