The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Silly question, but how do you determine the SC points for flights?

Calculate the mileage on the Earn>Flights>Mileage Calculator section of VFF site (or gcmap.com which allows you to do multiple sectors at once)
then plug into the Status>Earning Status Credits table of VFF site

Thanks guys, found it after staring blankly at the points earn page for 10mins :D

Looks like it's going to be an expensive exercise to get those SCs up domestically...
I travel a lot throughout Asia and the USA, seems like from reading throughout this thread that it's much better (dollar wise) to earn SCs overseas?

My wife and I flew VA code share with Singapore from Hobart to Osaka return in April. we earned a total of 570 SC's on a flexi fare, and paid about $1200 each return. So cheaper if that is where you are going i guess. Otherwise buy a multi leg special during happy hour, with family pooling $ per SC can be as low as an international fare. Can also use special discount codes from another thread. I will post link.

Thanks. I used this yesterday and it worked. flights BNE to LAX for $897 return 09/11 - 25/11. The code even worked outside the date range listed by QF WP.

I assume home base is Brisbane? If so BNE-SYD in saver is 10SC each way, 20SC each way in Flexi, and 40 each way in Business. Obviously you pay more for the Flexi and business. So look for multi leg flights.

Example BNE-HBA direct will net 15SC in saver, 30SC in Flexi and 60SC in business.
But BNE-MEL-HBA will net same SC's as above for the BNE-MEL, and same again for MEL-HBA.
Total return direct nets 30SC in saver, 60SC Flexi, 120SC in business,
total return via MEL nets 60SC in saver, 120SC Flexi, 240SC in business.
If you family pooled with you wife double again. Obviously there are many other options these are flights I do regularly so watch my SC closely.

Cheers and good luck Eternaix.

I think your calcs are off there...
BNE > MEL correct @ 15/30/60 sc
MEL > HBA is only 10/20/40 sc
So BNE > MEL > HBA return would net 50/100/200 sc

Looking for 150SC before July 27, or 170SC before November 8 to move up to SG for the first time.
If anyone sees some good J deals out of BNE please post them!
I should have taken up the J BNE>CNS deal that posted up earlier :(

So, long-time lurker in this thread. I have a swag of Velocity points that I'd like to try using for upgrades to The Business doing a trip to LAX with the family later in the year. But of course I need gold status for that.

Right now, I need 60 points by 28 June for silver. I plan on taking a trip on 30 Jul with the family which will get me gold with family pooling if I achieve silver first.

So I need a quick status run in the next few weeks.

I'm considering MEL-BNE-CNS-BNE-MEL one Sunday, which should net me my 60 points. I can get it via Orbitz for about $445, which would be $7.41/SC?

BNE-CNS is VA779, and arrives 12:10 PM. CNS-BNE is VA782, leaves 12:45 PM. Is there a way I could figure if that's the same aircraft? If it is, I'm comfortable trying that run, but if they're different aircraft I'll aim for the flight leaving CNS at 4:35 PM?

Sounds like it's the same plane. They don't usually have aircraft standing around on the tarmac. Maybe just do a search for the CNE-SYD flight times as that would be the only other likely one it might be.

Yeah, it will be a turn-around aircraft. You can use Flight Aware to search for VA782, and then on the top right flight information section, you can click "Track Inbound Flight" and it will show what flight the aircraft came in as.

I’m sure this has been asked to death so I apologise in advance but I’m trying to work out how many status credits my next trip in the coming weeks will earn me. Flying all with Etihad. Sydney to Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) via Abu Dhabi and then on return Dar Es Salaam to Heathrow via Abu Dhabi and then Heathrow to Sydney via Abu Dhabi. Hope that makes sense. What I was trying to work out is if the status credits count each separate flight stopover. All flights are standard economy and not discounted.

If the flight number changes, each sector will be counted individually

I wonder what impact VA's potential new routes to HKG and China will have on VA's SC earn flying SQ ex SYD/BNE/MEL to HKG, or even if that option will still be available.

Hi guys,

It is my understanding that points cannot be used as business upgrades or even claimed business reward seats unless that person has gold or platinum status. I also understand that it is possible to upgrade or claim reward business seats across any status on short haul international and any domestic flights. What I wanted to know is if there is any way to convert points to another program and upgrade to a long haul business class that way or even claim a reward seat.

upgrades are for gold/plat only. you can book a full reward seat with no status though in any class

Yes you can convert Virgin miles to Singapore Krisflyer and book flights with them (and other Star Alliance airlines)
