Just select the multiquote button on each post that you want to quote then hit reply with quote!

That's for quoting more than one quote. I thought Danger wants to quote a post that itself has a quote (viz. "nested" quotes).

Some text here.
The original post said:
This doesn't get quoted when you hit the "Reply with Quote" button
More text here.

The quoting system here I think doesn't support that. You'll just have to manually copy the quote into the new quote.

I just select both posts and quote that way. See the bottom right of each post there are 3 things : reply, reply with quote and a speech box with " and a +. Click on that and it gets ticked, then click on that for another post, and keep going as required. Then hit reply and all ticked posts will be quoted. You can also click on reply with quote on the last post and all the other ticked posts will be quoted. They are quoted in order of selection.

Just select the multiquote button on each post that you want to quote then hit reply with quote!

Thank you both. anat0l is on the money. I will have a play with this "nested" quotes thing.

Hmmm. I think I understand.

Sorry - I write my posts using BB Code and the plain text editor.

If you use the WYSIWYG editor on the forums (the one with all the toolbars), then I'm not sure how to turn some text into quoted text (or "format" it as quoted text).

This is where perhaps the mods or someone else can comment.

Just put around the bits you want to quote. An easy way is to use multi quote, then copy paste in the relevant bit, nested inside the first

Edit: Bah, I tried putting the quote tags inside a code tag, but still not displaying.

It is the same thing however. You just need to use copy and paste.

The key is to make sure you match up your quote starting code [] around quote= and the ending code [] around /quote and then nest them appropriately. You'll also notice that the quoted person can be listed by adding the name after the = i.e. [] around quote=Qantas

That number is a cross-reference to the post ID. It generates the

icon next to the name so that you can click on it to jump specifically to the post where the quote originated from.

Compare:

Code:

Yep, see I know what to do in theory, but no idea how to explain it. (Think I discussed this aspect of myself with an AFF member over wonderful dinner the other night)

Thanks for giving a proper demonstration. And I thought the number provided a link to the members profile.

Also to quote using the toolbar in the forum editor there is a speech bubble button on the left. Select text and click that button, to add the quote quotes around the text.

I used to love nested quotes and we had some fun in this thread in the early days when it was much easier to do with the software. ;)

Feedback similar to the abuse given to the PM? Acceptance of her inability to openly accept feedback highlights how low and poor the state of politics has become in this country.

I also have no problem with her stating her views. The issue is her refusal to accept people's freedom of speech to respond.

Sent from the Throne

Yes the feedback would be and is worse than anything said to Julia. If you want to read it-

Sorry but Gina did the right thing by not allowing comments on her You tube video.

You think that abuse is acceptable for the PM. It seems hypocritical to then protect someone else who is making them self a public figure solely on the basis of political beliefs. Typical of the right side of politics. Happy to dish it out but they sure as hell can't take it.

Gina's failure to be open to scrutiny makes her nothing more than a self serving hypocrite IMO. She has absolutely done the wrong think if she want to publicly enter this debate.

And that's the other thing. Her private access to the PM and opposition has clearly failed. Now she's coming out having a public spray. Recognise this for what it is, she certainly does hence the lack of openness.

Where did I say that I thought abuse of Julia is acceptable.
Quite frankly I think it is the left side of politics that is hypocritical-they sure dish it out to Little johnnie,TA and now Gina but complain bitterly when one of their own is subject to the same abuse. And just for the record I think calling John howard a naz_ and comparing him to Hitler is a worse form of abuse than that you continually harp upon re Julia.

So getting down to the nitty gritty I suspect we will have to agree that both sides of politics are hypocritical.

Anyone here use Optus mobile broadband?

It is acceptable at the best of times (better than Vodafone or 3) but the past couple of weeks it is hanging at least once every minute. Click on a link to a thread on AFF and it can take a minute or more to display. It gets very frustrating waiting and waiting for the request to be processed.

And a lot of you now are using phones to post on AFF. Is internet access via phones and mobile broadband the same network? Do you have the same inconsistency?

Dunno - I use Virgin Mobile which piggybacks on the Optus network. I don't have much trouble in metropolitan areas.

Actually I should mention that I have had issues with firstly 3, then Vodafone and then Virgin until I settled with Optus. Telstra is the only one I have not tried to date but that is a little too expensive.

Optus has been OK until the past couple of weeks. It is constantly hanging.

I wonder if it could be a computer issue. But why? I may try on my Windows 7 machine back in Sydney next week.

I was just about to suggest a computer issue, given issues with so many different providers.....

I'm on Virgin mobile, which, as serfty says, piggybacks off Optus. The data comes with my phone plan.

It's a little flaky once in a while. Sometimes I can get it going again by restarting the application I'm using (which essentially re-sends the request to the target server); sometimes I can get it going by turning off my data transmission, then turning it back on again. Once in a blue moon it just sits like a stunned mullet (and I wished I had a ping application to really test it), so all I can do is wait until later and try again, or find wifi.

Sometimes it kicks itself on particular apps, e.g. a Youtube video downloader or even Google Play store. Generally, though, I'm finding I'm getting decent reception and utility at least 95% of the time, so it's nothing to start raising hell over yet.

I haven't tried tethering my data to a computer (or my laptop, for example).

What has happened to Mark Webber and Red Bull?

BTW I am bit disturbed by "date older women" ads on AFF!

Just unpacked my footy from the last trip I did back to Perth and tried pumping it up to find it has a hole in it! :( Going to need to wait now till someone I know is coming over so they can bring over my spare!

I use Telstra 4G and it is awesome.

I do it via my phone.

I have got rid of my data stick.

The speeds I have got have been faster than my ADSL at home and work
