Luckily none of your siblings are dentists. My sister is on to me about my going for my annual checkups. "Luckily", my sister is a dentist, my cousin is a dentist, and my cousin's husband is a dentist (and has his own surgery)... so I get my annual checkup and scale and clean usually at mate's rates, or *cough* "free of charge".

Scale and clean used to hurt; now gotten used to it ("find your happy place..." :p :D)

Reminds me of a song-"Son be a Dentist"

Recently picked up son and two granddaughters who arrived from Japan NRT, boy did I forget about the drive to OOL and back to meet the JQ direct flight at 6.25 a.m.
Left Peregian (north Sunshine Coast) at 3 a.m., arrived OOL at 6.05, traffic was quite bearable. Started return drive at 7.45, arrived home at 1.15 p.m. It seems many other folk thought a drive to the Sunny Coast would be a good idea.
My New Years wish is for a direct flight NRT / BNE return, by an enterprising airline who would kill JQ's OOL flight.
Wishful thinking? (pun not intended)

Cheers Dee.

Rather fun 6 hours in sunny Roxby Downs yesterday replacing the pergola roof of my house. Well my brother in law did most of the work. Shame that the tenant is going to enjoy all that work.

Reminds me of a song-"Son be a Dentist"

From the Little Shop of Horrors, sung by the sadistic dentist:

Dentist! from Little Shop of Horrors movie - YouTube

Some example lyrics:

[ORIN]
When I was younger, just a bad little kid,
My mama noticed funny things I did,
Like shootin' puppies with a B B gun
I'd poison guppies, and when I was done
I'd find a coughcat and bash in its head
That's when my mama said

[CRYSTAL, RONETTE, CHIFFON]
What did she say?

[ORIN]
She said, "My boy, I think someday
You'll find a way
To make your natural tendencies pay
You'll be a dentist
You have a talent for causin' things pain
Son, be a dentist
People will pay you to be inhumane
Your temperament's wrong for the priesthood
And teaching would suit you still less
Son, be a dentist
You'll be a success

Ohhhhhhhh dear. I directed a production of Little Shop of Horrors last year, had to be one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. When I saw the first line of that, all the words came right back to me!

Anyway, the point is tetanus doesn't hurt if you have enough drinks to require you to self present to an emergency department.
Are people really that afraid of injections and/or needles?

I had 3 injections in the one day when I first went to Thailand in 2003. No pain although a little swelling for a few hours.

I have regular blood tests and I have deep veins and this poor nurse had to get 5 different needles before finding the right vein. She was worried more than I was and I kept telling her not to worry about it.

These days I have to administer injections myself every fortnight and that is worse than someone else administering the injection.

Strange isn't it! (although I have some strange fears in life, so I really shouldn't judge).

When I used to give blood, they loved me. I have thick veins so finding the right location was easy, and I bleed really well. However, (and I haven't been back for 5+ years), they no longer wanted me as a donor as I was false reacting with one of their preliminary disease tests (which triggered more expensive "accurate" tests, which always came back negative but a precautionary disposal of the donation was required). Since then I've had a blood scan for the usual diseases etc and there are no issues.

No idea if they're still using the same technology/tests, but it left a VERY negative opinion in my mind, I found certain people in Red Cross were idiots, and I still don't agree with some of their screening question criteria.

Not afraid of injections or needles, just don't like the pain. I also didn't really appreciate a dental assistance graphically describing how the needle was tearing apart the flesh in the roof of my mouth when I was about 16.

Speaking of weird things, I signed up for "Design Hotels Club" via an ad on FT (not 100% though, I manually typed in the URL as I don't believe in clickthroughs). Anyway, when the confirmation e-mail came, clicking the link just takes you to the signup page. Trying to login with the new credentials does the same, takes you to the signup page.

Anyway, 5-10 mins later my FB account had been logged into from Taiwan.

Co-incidence? All seems a bit odd.

Most people use the same password for all accounts so enticing people to create a new one somewhere is a very useful technique.

Pain? I guess we are all different.

Now dentists are a different story. My body does not tolerate adrenalin and sends me into panic/anxiety attacks which I do not want to ever go through again unless they occur naturally and I have no control over them....

Yes, it is part of the human body's defensive system and is caused by nerve fibre sending of signals when the body stabbed or cut or otherwise interfered with. ;) :D

Wow, I must be one of the few that like dentists (as I have quite a number as clients) but don't like Doctors (in their professional capacity - I like drron).

Well the day is not yet started in some places and we already have out first big earthquake for the year:

M7.0 earthquake struck Japan at 1428LT 01JAN12, SE of Honshu Island. Seismic intensity is 4 across Tokyo region.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to everyone!

I’ve enjoyed (although sometimes found it hard) my absence from AFF. Given me time to focus on other things but not much was accomplished.

  1. [*=left]Hello samh004, it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks. Why not take a few moments to ask a question, provide some advice, or perhaps share a travel tale!

I took a trip to Longreach, Barcaldine and Winton over the Christmas period… my advice is to not go over Christmas, as everything shuts down up there… unless you like the peace and quiet and want to get away, well then it’s wonderful!!

Good to see you are still around samh004! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you also....
