"Thanks" AA for the re-route... At least it adds a new airport to my collection.

Original routing:
DFW-LAS [F] -LAX [Y].
New routing:
DFW-OKC [Y] -LAX [F].

Should get a bonus 10SC out of it, and a few extra FF points... And I get into LAX about the same time. So not too bad after all. I believe I'm now firmly in Tornado Alley, so hopefully there isn't any nasties about to spin up out there!

For the first time in probably 5 years I left the house without a mobile phone, it felt like I was missing a limb. maybe some of us have become a bit to addicted to them.

IPhone4 has died, thanks to all the suggestions on Facebook; I will go and book an appointment with the Apple Store, pity the only Apple store is in Chermside, rather a long journey from where I live. :(

Went and watched the movie Transformers 3 in 3D, probably not as good as Transformers 2 but not too bad.

Lunch..... It's a slow afternoon on the Gold Coast.

Change of plans after not having my surgery-next 2.5 weeks to be spent in MKY working.
For once DJ have the most convenient flights.

Palo Alto Networks make some very nice network security boxes, pity their marketing department is not across the SPAM concept:

I just realised that I have not yet seen "Up in the Air"!

Don't get me wrong I want to see it but have never come across it anywhere. Am I the only one?

Where have you been? That movie is the bible for frequent flyers. ;)

Well. Maybe just me.

Obviously not on the flights that have shown this movie on IFE and have not come across the DVD in Thailand either.

I refuse to pay exhorbitant money to watch films in the cinemas. :-|

JohnK, that's amazing, you haven't seen it.

I'm hoping I can make it to drinks...

I saw "Up in the Air", Up in the Air :!:
Et Tu [-]Brut[/-]Bill?

... In any case, I'm over that now, having watched the movie Sunday night on QF128; and can finally consign my UITA blackout to the bin. ...

Actually, I had a bit of a contretemps over this with spoilers :(.

I don't watch movies much in theatres any more, preferring the ability to stop/reverse/play/pause at my leisure so I await for an appropriate AVOD opportunity.

See post #6057 of this very thread, as well as the following:

Don't click this link if you have not seen the movie: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/playground/spoiler-alert-up-air-what-21178.htm

(BTW it's all good now :D)

I just got blasted in TOTT about revealing too much when I provided little more than what you'd see in a newspaper, online review or IMDB, which clearly flags "spoiler material".

...

(a) had enough warning not to read these threads, or (b) hasn't seen enough that would spoil the movie for them. ...
I beg to differ ... so good was my self imposed blackout on this movie, I did not know who or what a "***** *******" was until this thread! Unkowing what it was I started reading this thread, then pulled up very quickly once I realied what it was about and I then edited the thread title.

FWIW, I had deliberately endeavoured to watch no trailers, look at any signs/posters or read any article about this film.

All I really knew it was about a corporate traveller with CK approaching 10mega miles.

After this thread had its genesis I knew the name of the "lead Character", so now had to include all references to "***** ********" in my black list.

New knowledge? Please. Reading movie blurbs in the paper will give you the title character (not to mention he's played by Clooney). The only thing this thread topic might tell you is that he doesn't die, apart from that, big deal - you haven't learnt much at all! You haven't guessed any of the plot, unless you're a sadis_ or just lucky. And you're still missing out on the experience to have your own appreciation tested by the movie by seeing it.
It's amazing what I can discern from reading 'between' the lines; generally getting close to the mark. I never know not what or how accurate such discernment may be; so it is better to eliminate all opportunity to do so.

As far as TTOTT goes, that was a total surprise. You quoted verbatim (with no warning [originally]) in a thread I never expected to see such :
...
(note this is the line verbatim from the movie;...) ...

We had a speaking competition heat today of which I took out the heat and am now in possession of a 8GB 4Gen iPod touch.

I'm planning to hook it up to my laptop tonight, allow the two to get acquainted and then possibly start to sync things over.

This is the first time I'm using a device which runs on iOS, plus whilst I have an iTunes account (having bought a couple of songs before), I haven't dealt with the Apple Store.

Are there any things that I should do first up / know about straight away, either after I get acquainted with the iPod and/or before I jump into the thick of things?

When you update iOS (if I have to do it), does all the data on the iPod get wiped? (I assume this is not really an issue as all data - except settings - is "backed up" or synchronised in iTunes so will always be restorable from the host system... or am I wrong?)

I'm not a techno-phobe as some of you will attest to, but just in case there are key things I should know about rather than just picking up here and there by guessing.

A point upgrade, such as from what your iPod touch likely has in it to 4.3.4 released last week doesn't erase anything, however iOS 5 would, but then as you say, the backup would restore things afterwards. On an iPod touch the iOS 5 upgrade would also cost a nominal fee I believe, unlike the iPhone, when it is eventually released.

You should choose to encrypt your iPhone backup from within iTunes as this will ensure wifi passwords entered on the device and I believe mail account too, will be backup-able and restorable.

I'd also check the box to manually manage media/music, otherwise it'll fill your device up with all your music and not leave you much space for anything else, assuming you have over 7GB of music?

Download the AFF app on the device directly, or through iTunes and enjoy the forum on the go (well within wifi range of course)...

Oh, and congratulations!
