I even managed to pass Canadian Immigration scrutiny (although, she seriously flicked through my passport several times... and my cabbie thought I was getting a much heavier set of questions than normal people do).
Canadians must have a hang up about single, Australian males entering Canada. Not sure why but I am sure they feel their reasoning is valid.

Haven't you installed speakers and setup auto-answer mode on the phone? ;)

Sheraton On The Falls?

Close... Crowne Plaza. (only a few doors down). The other view is straight over the Rainbow bridge. Was also interesting watching the immigration queues and hubbub last night.

Yeah they do (have seen this written on many travel boards, and it has been a long-standing belief of mine). Is one of the reasons I've been avoiding Canada, but now I have my first stamp hopefully things will get easier.

This single-never-married Australian student male only got one screening question and then was welcomed to Canada, and mind you my passport contents don't make for an orthodox story. I didn't even get a stamp.

Wait until you're well in your 30s and keep up solo travelling. You'll notice certain countries that find it *strange* (just like some of my friends find it strange. Bucking social trends and not getting married (or living in a de facto relationship) is strange to many people).

Canada seems to have a moral hang-up over it.

Fair enough. You gotta be called out as weird some time. Mind you, sometimes a student traveling First or Business Class, let alone holding top status with an airline, was considered socially unusual not too long ago (hence the "prejudice" associated with it).

The common prejudice that comes my way is being an Asian (looking, that is; wasn't even born in Asia) student (and whatever associated with it, e.g. potential to smuggle things, claim asylum or PR via being a student in a country, etc.)

Yeah, you have your own set of travel issues and stereotypes applied. Back in the U.S in a few hours (going to walk over the Rainbow bridge), so that will be another immigration interaction which should be fun. At least they don't tend to ask me too much any more... I think a frequent (but not too frequent) travel pattern helps allay many concerns.

I'd just like to say, if you ever get the chance to go to Bergen in Norway; go go go go go! The place is absolutely amazing. The hiking was awesome (6.5 hours from Ulriken to Floyen) and had a good challenge to it as well. The views were spectacular. The 2 locals I met who ended up becoming my tour guides was just icing on the cake

Those of you who have me on FB, check the pics, you won't be disappointed!

Looks like Qantaslink are having problems in and out of MEL today. All flights in delayed 1-2 hours. The early DPO flight hasnt yet left DPO.My 1000 bflight has been put back to 1120.Fortunately today flying via SYD.Have a 3 hour transit to JQ's MCY flight.A bit worried my bag wont be getting home today.

Going to Scandinavia has always been on my bucket list; hadn't fully decided where but somewhere there is great. (No, OSL from SMD1 doesn't really count.) I'll make sure to earmark Bergen, along with the cities Stockholm, Helsinki and possibly Copenhagen. Although not in the region but still Nordic theme, Reykjavik is on the list, too (damn repegging of the ISK).

I've seen the pics on FB and I agree it looks great. Wonderful architecture, great views - just superb. I'd be wondering whether to go in summer or winter - not that it matters much; that hike looks great too. And to top it all off, you're looking in excellent shape! (Much better shape than I am, for sure)

I was asked lots of questions entering Canadia last year but it was just after LAX had stopped stapling the green form in passports. The Canadian woman was convinced I had lost it and told me if they'd stopped stapling them she would have been told. She didn't stamp my passport :(
