Dad got a milkrun in 1980-1981 and my brother and I used to help. We didn't get paid but that was our first job.

We should have shown a lot more responsibility and helped out our dad much more than what we did. But we were teenagers first.

Looking back now I realise that I should have listened to my parents. They knew and still know a lot more than I will ever know.

My first job was a 15 year old selling raffle tickets at our local football club. Paid quite well actually. $5 for every book sold so usually $20 for 90 minutes tax free money.

I worked back and figured that I was paid £7 a week in 1964 working 5 and a half days as a lawnmower man while I was on school holidays. So that was $14 a week back then but it was pre decimal currency.
It became a lot easier to earn money after that but it was good exercise.

Brisbane Ekka- dogemcars - '64/65 $20 a day for 10 hr shift.

Worked 3 hours in the afternoon selling the Daily News in Perth.

First full time position paid less than selling the newspapers....

The first time I got paid for working involved digging and lugging raw blocks of jadestone from a small quarry on the outskirts of Perth. Summer in the late 90s. I got paid $200/day. I lasted... one day. By mutual consent. Cut my hands to shreds and my Irish complexion couldn't cope with the sun, despite my precautions. Was thankful for the chance, but clearly not for me.

Yet another in the entertainment industry dying in December.Tyrus Wong who originally sketched Bambi for Disney. But he was 106.
Bambi artist Tyrus Wong dies aged 106 - BBC News

That's a good innings

Choking game? Really sad to read the recent deaths.

Yes, very sad. Kids (people) just don't realise the danger from activities they think might be fun. I had a cousin who was killed when he thought it would be a good lark to climb out the passenger window and perch on the car's roof while it was being driven at 100kph.

My first job was as a gardener for obviously a rather rich widow.I often went to one of her holiday homes to do those gardens-pay was the holiday. And I only worked in the garden.

My first job was a field assistant for the government geologists over the summers while at uni. Meant traipsing up and down mountains in the south-west rain, hail or shine and leeches (and we'd get them all) but the upside was a paid camping 'holiday' and we often made camp by McPartlan's canal between Lakes Pedder and Gordon. Prohibited to the public, but this spot was great for fishing for trout - seemed sometimes you could almost walk across them in the canal.

My first full time job was as a geo on an underground gold mine in outback WA. Boy, that was a transition, I can tell you! I remember being amazed that we actually got paid more while on holidays (leave loading). Even then, I thought it was crazy for salaried staff who didn't work overtime. Correction - didn't get paid for overtime. Gee, we worked a lot of hours ... because we enjoyed it :)

I like that you had to specify you only worked in the garden

With the heat in Perth yesterday we decided to take bub to the family beach at Hillarys Marina, and then try out California Pizza Kitchen, which is where Jetty's restaurant used to be. I liked Jetty's, as it had a decent buffet.

Apparently CPK is quite well regarded in the US, but it was a major letdown. Waited almost an hour for our food - one pizza and a prawn & zucchini fettucine. But the real annoyance was waiting more than 30 minutes just for the water we asked for when ordering.

The place wasn't super busy, but watching people who'd arrived and ordered after us get their food well before us didn't do our moods any good. And then it took quite some time to pay, and they tried to charge us extra for the drink that was included in the kids meal.

Won't be rushing back.

CPK typical Yank cough - but as we all know they love eating cough.

Oh I am a big fan of cough, which is not something to be proud of I guess. But it shouldn't take 50+mins to make a pizza. And on that note, I reckon I prefer my pizzas in the traditional style, rather than with raw tomato, avocado, and lettuce draped on top.

Not sure what I was thinking there.
