SWMBO does ok from Chanel domestics when she takes the Chanel handbag or purse shopping. The last time the lady was a bit rude. Then swmbo pulled out the purse to pay, and the attitude changed to chatting and things thrown in.

I consider it insulting to the person serving the customer and understand the reasons why it shouldn't be done.

Haven't done it and will stand back and let others pass me if I really need to have the conversation. Otherwise I keep the phone on silent until I'm in a position to take calls again.

I tried this at my local coffee shop. They'd make my usual for me and serve me anyway. Note this is at a window serving onto the street. They'd call me down from meters away. But this is also the place that will often make my coffee when they see me walking out the front door of the building so that it's ready when I get to the serving window. I apologise often for the phone calls, they don't seem to care.

Yeah, but, JohnK, seriously, you are...... hmmm, how shall I put this...... different???

Different? I am quite happy to travel economy in my favourite seat. I'd waste points on business class awards occasionally but not often unless points are cheap ala Aadvantage when AUD at parity. I'd happily accept free upgrades to business/first but not premium economy unless bulkhead.

Is that different? Choosy yes but the hype doesn't get me that easily.

That's fair enough unless your mobile is the point of contact for your job. If I'm on call or called from work I will always answer my phone wherever I am but I step outside or away from any interruptions to other people near me. In my car I will advise the caller that I have passengers and if it's urgent and not confidential they can speak with me.

That's a +1 from me.

I have had a horrible week.

But today I shared a special moment. Having dinner with my old mum tonight and she saved the chicken's wishbone to snap with me. She recounted the story of her nanna who would always save the wishbone to break with her.

A peculiar urban tradition. But a very special moment for me at the end of a week I would rather forget.

I cherish my family and am thankful for those who are still with us.
