I have more grey hair now than I'd like; but I maintain that the first kid that gives up a seat for me (the oldie) will get a piece of my mind :) ;) .

Which will mean that another young person will probably not offer their seat to someone who needs it for fear of being abused.

I suggest that you accept that you look old and decrepit and accept the gesture in the spirit it is offered

I think it is tricky for men who might like to offer their seat to a woman. I don't expect men to do so, as my gender doesn't make me need the seat any more than a man does. But if offered I might or might not accept but I always thank them. I open doors for men too if I get to it first. :p

Not only that but it would be considered insulting not to take the seat when offered.

No matter how packed the subways were in Moscow and St Petersburg, my 75+ mother NEVER had to stand even for one stop...I was very impressed! !

Wouldn't happen in London I can guarantee you that! Especially on the tube.

As an example, based on my observations going to/from work, young men with caps on backwards and backpacks are regularly searched at local railways stations, and many may believe it is all about drugs. Well perhaps at the end of the day it is, but most of the searches turn up stolen goods/merchandise. I don't know how many times I have seen mostly young men of Caucasian appearance sitting with their back to the railing outside our local station, with the merchandise laid out beside them, and being photographed. The "I must of lost the docket" (sic) excuse generally accompanies the search. (Note: Recent advice is that people who steal for a living carry out between 20-40 thefts per week.)

Without trying to generalise..... I dare say that often theft and 'feeding' drug habits oft go hand in hand.

Glad to see there are some women who live in the new world and embrace it!

Russia is another country where kids quickly give up metro seats for the seniors.

Aww, I was kidding - see the wink?

Oh, never mind, I'll just leave this thread and it's recent less than friendly theme ...

In my building at work, it's very British polite. Women always are allowed onto lifts first and allowed out first. Doors are opened for them etc etc. Amazing to see that level of politeness.

Ah doesn't BA want to remind you how valuable QF platinum and one world emerald membership is to them. They 'were unable to load' my bag in London for J flight to Bilbao. Such a shame. Must have been difficult for them to load three J bags for all the J pxs on the one flight. So inconvenient.

But they did send me an email saying

"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience we have caused you. As a valued oneworld Emerald frequent we would like to convey how committed we are to bringing you an exceptional travel experience. We will do everything we can to avoid this problem happening again.

We look forward to continuing our valued relationship and to serving you on a British Airways flight in the future.".

So nice to be a valued customer.

Insurance, but TBH I expect it isn't different to a lot of companies in the UK.

The English are generally very polite. It can be a shock to the system if you are used to rude people.

Of course American feminists would find that offensive nowadays. (e.g. "I am quite capable of opening the door on my own").

Fortunately on AFF there are limits on our 'free speech'.
That could well be true but for now sanity prevails and free thought is still allowed.

Not expecting too many to be paying respects at my funeral but ..
