It's kinda funny there is a thread on AFF about the pretentious peeps who inhabit the J and F cabins in planes.

So, maybe we need a poll - what is worse? Pretentious or boorish? or maybe they are just different types of rudes!

I was going to say, why do I have to choose? To parody the little girl from the Old El Paso ad, can't I have neither of them?

Wow, just wow. High horse much? You must really think that you're better than people
Actually if you knew me at all you wouldn't make that statement. I have a very low opinion of myself.

Now back to my generalisation. We can just sit back and ignore that certain people are loud and rude. We can simply ignore when these people go to Bali or coughet they behave exactly the same way.

That may be OK for you. It sure isn't OK for me.

This is how working class people behave. They do not know any better.

No-one is saying that we should sit back and ignore loud, rude behaviour. I have no idea where you are getting that from. What we are saying is that attributing that behaviour to all working class people is entirely objectionable and in fact wrong.

Hang on a second; Is it only certain people? Or is it all people who live west of Marrickville? Is it all people who go to Bali?

I know many people who live west of Marrickville, but I wouldn't call any of them loud and rude. Hell, I even lived in the west areas of Sydney for a little while - Oh that's right I am rude IYHO.

I know people who go to Bali who I wouldn't call loud or rude. Even ex-school teachers and Ex-Ansett FAs. Better be careful that next FA might be a dreaded Bali visitor. But I'm sure you'll be able to spot them.

Those of us who have watched Up In The Air will be familiar with the quote by Mr Bingham whilst characterising people at security screening:
I stereotype; it's faster.
Yes, I know it's a movie. But many people assume first and (maybe) fix later.

It also explains why people who may be "unfortunately predisposed" are deprived of character, opportunity or dignity until, if it does happen, given a fair chance.

He stereotypes to make his life easier. I fail to see how stereotyping all working class people as rude and loud in anyway helps with day to day tasks like getting through security screening at an airport fast. Stereotyping with purpose seems different to stereotyping to be generally judgemental.

Stereotyping guarantees that you will always be criticised.

Making a considered statement on the other hand can avoid unpleasantness.

From my extensive survey of one the exhaustive statistical analysis revealed:

  • Rudeness has no minimum or maximum IQ rating
  • Selfishness knows no class barriers nor is restricted to any particular socioeconomic group
  • Age is no barrier to discourtesy
  • Getting up to offer your seat to an elderly person, or heavily pregnant woman or otherwise deserving soul seems to decrease at an exponential rate for those below 35 years of age.
  • Self-centred and self-absorbed people often (no stereotyping here) complain loudly about being hard done by
  • Volunteering for anything is inversely proportional to peoples' ability to push-in (survey conducted over 15 years at 5 schools concerning school parents).

People that enjoy bitter tastes such as black coffee linked with psychopathic traits.

Abstract

In two studies, we investigated how bitter taste preferences might be associated with antisocial personality traits. Two US American community samples (total N = 953; mean age = 35.65 years; 48% females) self-reported their taste preferences using two complementary preference measures and answered a number of personality questionnaires assessing Machiavellianism, psychopathy, narcissism, everyday sadism, trait aggression, and the Big Five factors of personality. The results of both studies confirmed the hypothesis that bitter taste preferences are positively associated with malevolent personality traits, with the most robust relation to everyday sadism and psychopathy. Regression analyses confirmed that this association holds when controlling for sweet, sour, and salty taste preferences and that bitter taste preferences are the overall strongest predictor compared to the other taste preferences. The data thereby provide novel insights into the relationship between personality and the ubiquitous behaviors of eating and drinking by consistently demonstrating a robust relation between increased enjoyment of bitter foods and heightened sadistic proclivities.

Well, I just stereotyped my response to a survey that asked my view of bid now upgrade offers - "Overall bid now is a joke"

Bad choice of words? Should I have said some "blue" collar workers? Sorry Princess but I don't hold back. I am not afraid to stereotype. Apologies if some people take offence to it.

Now for the people taking the time to attack me here. The less said the better.

Here's another stereotype for you. The refugee crisis in Europe is going to have serious repercussions around the world. They are already demanding housing and handouts. And we are taking some of them here in Australia. Huge mistake.

I should be allowed to say that without being afraid. But I'm afraid because some people want to take away freedom of speech and we are sitting back letting them do it.

Your opinion of yourself is irrelevant if you still believe that you're better than the "working class".

I think you've summed it up nicely here PF

Bad choice of words? Should I have said some "blue" collar workers? Sorry Princess but I don't hold back. I am not afraid to stereotype. Apologies if some people take offence to it.

SOME "blue" collar workers are rude and boorish. Just like some white collar workers are. A type of job does not automatically make one classy nor boorish. In this day and age your stereotype applies less.

Now for the people taking the time to attack me here. The less said the better.

Playing victim again after throwing the first stone. And I don't think anyone has attacked you, disputed your opinion maybe, but attack, no.

I should be allowed to say that without being afraid. But I'm afraid because some people want to take away freedom of speech and we are sitting back letting them do it.

Sorry but this is Australia and you don't actually have freedom of speech. If that's what you want, become a US citizen and live there.

I seem to recall a thread (or maybe just a few posts) recently discussing status credits for different flights with the same flight number. Does anyone remember where it is?

[h=1]No more nudes in Playboy magazine, centrefold's future at risk: report[/h]Now readers of Playboy, the glossy men's magazine known for its nude fold-outs, can honestly say they are buying the magazine for its articles.

Playboy will no longer publish nude photographs of women, the New York Times reported on Monday in an article quoting Scott Flanders, the company's chief executive.

The original mass produced nudie magazine is going away from its beginnings to seek more readers.

History was made when it was produced in the fifties and again now. But then who has actually seen a hard copy in the last few years?
