this was the fellow that was a perennial thorn in Mr.Lee's side-
J. B. Jeyaretnam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Between his terms in Parliament he used to roam the streets giving speeches and selling a book about his trials.I bought a copy.
Lee Kuan Yew certainly was a dictator and not that benelovent.Despite that he certainly raised the standard of living for the majority of Singaporeans.

He was certainly a polarizing figure.
Love him or hate him.
He put true meaning into zero tolerance.
I remember when long hair, uncovered shoulders and many other restrictions were the norm.
Remember the American teenager who went on a graffiti rampage. After being given a sentence which included periodical beatings with the "rattan" he hightailed it back to America.
Anyone keen to spray paint a slogan on a wall in Singapore?

He would not be the first leader in history to befit that kind of description (except replace "Singaporeans" with the relevant group).

In an Asian culture, there's a high tendency not to understand "zero tolerance" more than simply punishing people for doing the wrong thing (i.e. that is actually socially, morally or ethically reprehensible). Having been born into it (in Australia), it was confusing when I was younger how much I realised you could seem to "get away" with when talking with your mates at school.

The teenager you are referring to was Michael Fay. It was apparently quite an issue at the time, but ultimately many in the USA (his home country) were supportive of the sentence or simply conceded to respecting Singapore's right to exercise judicial punishment in its own jurisdiction (even though his caning sentence was actually reduced by 1/3, or 2 strokes). Whether or not one can attribute that punishment (and associated "blame") to his future post-Singapore activities, including butane abuse, is a whole different affair.

If, by some slim chance I was able to assist said research scientist, I wonder how I would go living in a tent from 7 to 9 months now that I have had a taste of Hilton Diamond?

You'll be fine as long as we keep sending you provisions? (from Rockford I assume ;) )

Unbelievable! Fairly simple multicity booking. Forgot to change the 3rd flight to the preferred time. Thank you qantas for the same day guarantee.

The clinics I visit at PAH are very popular and everyone just shuts up and doesn't complain. The other day was the first time I saw someone other than me complain about lengthy delays

I'm sure others might know, but may I ask why do you bother with the public system? Get a private referral and you will generally- again, barring emergencies-be seen close to when you expect to.

Having attended many public hospital outpatient clinics and seen how every year they are expected to do more with less, I'm unsurprised that your waiting times blow out.

I said this last time he complained about the same issue.

Lack of Private health insurance?

Am just back from the theatre tonight having seen Cats at the Palladium. Absolutely loved the show but could've done something to the woman sitting next to me both posting on FaceBook and filming parts of the show.

Fair dinkum unbelievable and incredibly ignorant especially since she arrived late!

When my sister and I saw Wicked at The Apollo, there were ushers around and about who had no reservations calling out and scolding anyone who was filming the show.

I don't get it - it's such an amazing show why waste your time filming when you can be soaking it up and enjoying yourself!

Unfortunately it's the cost of using the private system. I have private health insurance but it doesn't cover specialist consultations.

But you are right. More demand. Waiting times are increasing. Why? Cost of the private health system?

Went to another outpatient clinic in same hospital yesterday with a 1:30pm appointment. I was one of the first seen and back at work before 3:00pm. Hepatology have given me an 8:30am or 9:00am appointment in October for follow up. I am not going to accept anymore mid-morning appointments.

Not unusual at all to see. As others have commented, with some productions they just don't care, and others they are very keen to stop it. I've seen spotlight torches used to shame people in one theater.

I thought I saw something about a website for retrospectively checking available airfares on a given day (in the past). Possibly in the big downgrade from business thread. I've scanned 900 out of the 1400 posts and didn't see such a web link.

Is there such a website? Or did I imagine it?
